Mariah (themariah) | 2 comments Hi,

I'm kind of new to the supernatural/paranormal genre, in that I haven't read much (although I've watched a lot). Could any of you recommend some reading as an introduction to the genre?

I'm specifically looking for non-romance novels, which I know aren't as common as the paranormal romance ones.

In any case, I would prefer that the recommendations are primarily Angels and/or Demons, but I am open to anything else in the genre, especially the not so common, like shapeshifters and the like - except zombies.

Many thanks!

Mariah

Hi Mariah - I've got a non-romantic angel novella that just won an award.

A Gothic Christmas Angel (Children of the Fallen, #2) by Anna Erishkigal

Okay ... other books angels/demons non-PNR-ish:

Sniegoski Angelology (Angelology, #1) by Danielle Trussoni Angels' Blood (Guild Hunter, #1) by Nalini Singh Good Omens The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Terry Pratchett

Hi, Anna,

Congratulations on that award!

Thanks for the other suggestions. Good Omens is definitely one of my favorite novels; everything I've read by Neil Gaiman just blows me away!

Shelby | 26 comments All of mine have a little romance in them, but you can give them a try!

Half-Blood (Covenant, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) by Susan Ee Something Witchy This Way Comes (Something Witchy, #1) by Veronica Blade Bound (The Crystor, #1) by C.K. Bryant

Hope you find something you like! (:

Kay Causer (kaycauser) | 7 comments It's hard to find anything in paranormal these days with no romance at all, especially in YA. My books don't involve angels and demons specifically but they can be interpreted that way. Light spirits as angels and shadows or dark spirits as definitely being quite demonic.
Shadow Weavers Hummingbird (Shadow Weavers, #1) by Kay Causer

You could also try someone like Zoe Marriott. She always has some love in her books but it's very downplayed.
The Night Itself (The Name of the Blade, #1) by Zoë Marriott Shadows on the Moon by Zoë Marriott

Michael Lewis (mlewisct) | 9 comments There is some romance in The Messenger and The Sentinel as an integral part of character development. It is secondary to the main story, but sets up a key situation/decision. It is also non-traditional. Angels and demons are a big part of this series. In the second book, the Sentinel, demons come much more into play.

R.M. Webb | 11 comments There is a bit of a love story in my book but it actually takes a back seat to the action.

Gabby | 906 comments You could read the books of the shows you like- there are a lot of good movies that were novels first! It's really cool to see the differences between movie and book version :)
