Should retellings be listed as editions of the original?

I've come across this German author Dirk Walbrecker that does retellings for kids of classical adventure books like Robinson Crusoe our Moby Dick. Now, on a lot of editions the name of the original author isn't even on the cover, so should the book be combined with the original?

No, retellings should be kept separate from the originals.

The original author may be added as a secondary author, but only if mentioned in the book, I think.

Really? Only if mentioned? I personally find it quite disrespectful to not even mention the original author.. But I guess that's not my job to care about. Thank you!
