Susan This is one of the greatest childrens' books in my library. I am always astonished to find people who don't know of it. I read it to my little granddaughter one day (when she was only about 18 months old) and it forever changed her concept of monkey language! They don't just say, "Eee, eee, eee!" They can also say, "Tsst, tsst, tsst!"

Cathy aka The Attached Mama Great Book!

Robin I agree!

Lisa I always love reading this book to my kids. Awesome book!

Robin I read this as a child, loved it!

Janessa Hall This was one of my very favorite books as a kid. I remember being surprised to hear my 7 year old read it. The voice of the peddlar was so clear in my head that I never imagined it being read in a different style.

Ivy I remember this book from when I was realllllyy little and then I came across it at the library. I actually checked it out and read it! Best Children's Book Ever!!!

Misty It's on my list of books to buy for my infant son. I buy him one new book every month for his one month birthday. He is almost 10 months old now (3rd of each month). Even though he already has roughly 200 children's, young reader, adolescent and young adult books, there's always room for one more. (Not really, what he really needs is a new bookcase.)

Philip Paul what are the hats symbolic of in modern society?
