To combine or not to combine?

There are some editions of Macbeth, such as;

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... which has the original text on one side, modern English translation on the other side,
and some graphic novels, such as https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2....

Should I combine all of them to the original Macbeth edition or should I leave them where they are?

I know that graphic novels or cliff notes (I guess the guidebook and study guide is more or less the same) shouldn't be combined with the original work.

Not sure about the ome with oiginal text and modern translation.

I think so too (for the graphic novels and the cliff notes), but another librarian keeps combining the books which I separate. We should arrive a decision so I'll use this topic as an example :)

I'd say not on the study guide and guidebook.

I'm not sure on the Graphic Novels. Normally, we wouldn't combine them but some of the Shakespeare graphic novels contain the complete play, word-for-word.

Something I've seen around here is that graphic adaptations don't get combined as a general rule but if the book contains the full text of the original, you do combine it.

I've seen it done both ways with the non-graphic No Fear Shakespare editions.

IMO, I'd say they should be combined because we do combine other translations and those particular editions do contain the full text of the original play. And from personal experience, the time I read one, I read the original and just glanced at the modern English from time to time if I got to a confusing passage. (In my defense, the library didn't have a Folger's edition available.)

Oh I just assumed the graphic novels would be shortened versions of the text. Never occured to me that they might contain the full play (I've only read graphic version of longer novels and those were always shortened).

But if they are containing the full text, I'd combine them too.
