ABANDONED. Specific retelling of the snow queen

This is a retelling of the Snow Queen myth. I read it when I was in high school a while ago so it was probably published before 2005.

I dont remember if any of the characters in this version have the same name as the characters in the old version. The only things I really remember is that the snow queen in this version was a rich old human woman and the main female had to rescue the main character. There may have been magic but there were no aliens, vampire, faeries etc.

The male character, had something wrong with him, so he was cared at the female main characters home. He 'want's not home' mentally but woke up in the last chapter or page.

It was a novel and not a short story. The book has no illustrations.
