You just dropped off your child at the bus stop. A panicked stranger calls your phone. Your child has been kidnapped, and the stranger explains that their child has also been kidnapped, by a completely different stranger. The only way to get your child back is to kidnap another child within 24 hours. Your child will be released only when the next victim's parents kidnap yet another child, and most importantly, the stranger explains, if you don't kidnap a child, or if the next parents don't kidnap a child, your child will be murdered. You are now part of The Chain.

I'm excited to hear what other people think though- but I just didn't really like this one after the first half. It was so slow and I got so bored

(view spoiler)[ So this is off to a strong start and definitely makes you think a lot about how far you'd go if put in this type of position. As a mother with two kids (7 and 15 years old) I cannot imagine the fear that would hit getting a phone call that someone else had taken one of my kids. When the lady who has Kylie shot the trooper... whoa. I'm not sure I could do that. But then again, they're my babies and I cannot imagine not doing everything I had to in order to save them.

I love how Rachel is fighting through her terror. I also adore the authors ability to insert humor in small ways - the moms jokes, the clerk's comments at the hardware store.

Kylie's internal dialogue shows how easy it is for a kid that young to know the right way to react in an abduction situation yet not be able to actually do it. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 5 - (view spoiler)[This is kinda depressing so far. Imagine having your child abducted then being forced to abduct another child to save yours. This is just such a nightmare situation. It seems like everyone involved is suffering.

I was wondering what the point of it was if people just keep kidnapping other people's kids but I see that the mysterious 'Chain' is using this scheme to get money out of people. It's genius actually because it preys on vulnerable parents who will obviously do anything to get their children back, and technically they aren't involved in the kidnappings.
