Reflection (Book for the Month of July)

Our first book club book! This book is Reflection: A Twisted Tale, by Elizabeth Lim. This is the fourth book in the Twisted Tale series, but it can be read as a stand along book. This book explores what could have happened in the classic Disney retelling of the Chinese heroine, Mulan. The Twisted Tale series explores all of the “What-If” questions you ever had about your favorite Disney stories. Each book focuses on one classic Disney tale.

As you read the book, discuss your thoughts with other members. Once you’ve finished the book post what you thought about it below. Discuss how the characters and how the plot are different from the story of Mulan you might remember Talk about your favorite twists in the story. If you enjoyed it, we may read more Twisted Tales!

The Disney story of Mulan is much different from the actual Chinese legends we have of Hua Mulan. She was a fierce warrior, just like the Disney retelling, but her original story was much different. I’m on Chapter 12 right now. ShiShi is a great addition to the story, he’s too cute. But I’m probably biased since I love lions lol. He’s hilarious!
