This book, The Red Book by Barbara Lehman is a wordless book with a blank red cover on it with a boy running with a book in his hands. Just from seeing the cover of this book lures readers to read it. Some things that caught my eyes reading this book was how there were no words! The book had no words, but the pictures helped explain for readers to understand.
This book would be great for children ages 4-8. However, even an older child would enjoy the surprise of the characters actually seeing each other on the pages of a book. Any child would like to imagine that the characters they read in books are real and are looking back at them as well. The illustrations in this book are very simple. Even the city child is difficult to classify as a boy or a girl. Those details are unimportant, as the reader is able to decide exactly what is happening and what might happen next. A young reader would be able to tell how each character was feeling during different parts of the story. An older reader could write a continuation of this book beginning when the new character opening the little red book.
