Christopher Scott | 4 comments Superworm details the adventures of a super strong and super long worm that helps neighbours and friends with tiny insect disasters and fun times. The adventure continues when the evil Lizard Wizard blackmails Superworm into finding treasure upon penalty of being fed to its pet crow. The story concludes with the friends of Superworm coming together and saving Superworm whilst dethroning the Wizard Lizard.
Superworm is a great story for key stage 1 pupils and portrays the values that should be instilled in this age group such as community and kindness to one another. The book also reveals age appropriate and fantastic illustrations which would entice and excite any young reader into pursuing the book until the end. The English used in this book could be used to teach young readers the correct use of descriptive techniques such as onomatopoeia:
“BANG! CRASH! THUMP!”
This in addition to excellent use of rhyming stanzas provides a demonstrative resource in the teaching of a key stage 1 class prior to an English class for example.
