Seraphina No wonder you have been quiet Allan

message 52: by Trelawn (new)

Trelawn It's doing my nut in because i hate using the full site on my phone. Grrrrrr

And I thought it was just me having the problem! Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone. At least it's happening when I'm stuck at home getting over the last of my cold. I can just use the computer. If it was happening when I was actually out and needed the app, I'd be quite peeved.

message 54: by [deleted user] (new)

My problem is with the email service as sometimes they don't get through and sometimes the site says that they haven't when they have. It's very unpredictable :(

message 55: by Richard (new)

Richard I'm new to the site and wondered if there was a quick way to get to new comments particularly for longer threads. When I click on new comments in notifications I'm taken to the start of the conversation which is fine but it would be helpful to skip quickly to the end of the thread also.
I'm on Android (Moto G phone)

message 56: by Allan (new)

Allan Hi Richard, I had the same problem when I switched from my iPhone to Android. When you open a thread, click the three dotted icon on the bottom right of the app, and it gives you the option of reading newest comments first. :)

message 57: by Richard (new)

Richard Many thanks Allen - I knew I was missing something quite simple - just couldn't see it!

message 58: by Allan (new)

Allan Is anyone having difficulty shelving books tonight on GR? I've been trying - and failing - to shelve 'The Chimes' as read for the past 30 minutes.

message 59: by Paul (new)

Paul I shelved A Christmas Carol a few minutes back with no hassle

message 60: by Allan (new)

Allan I eventually got it sorted - not a book that I'd recommend.

message 61: by Paul (new)

Paul Its not nearly as good as A Christmas Carol

message 62: by Allan (new)

Allan Emma, I think the issue with links that you mentioned re the Christmas Quiz the other day is an issue with the Android app-I'm getting a 404 not found page when I access via the app, but can access no probs using the normal browser. Is anyone else having this issue?

message 63: by Paul (new)

Paul Since the last update this is happening to a few links . I'm not sure why but I've sent an email to goodreads on it

message 64: by Kevin (new)

Kevin The goodreads iPhone and iPad app is pissing me off lately. It has taken me three attempts to make this post alone. It keeps crashing on me and sorta glitching out. Anyone else having issues?

message 65: by Paul (new)

Paul The Android app is very bad at the moment for links

message 66: by Gavin (new)

Gavin (bookmad93) | 871 comments i refuse to use the apps as i had bad experince with it so just go through the browser non mobile mode and works okey some times it's hard

message 67: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Opening links with the in app browser is painful. It's hard to believe this site is owned by amazon.

message 68: by Seraphina (new)

Seraphina Maybe someone can help me with this one, can you back up your books on your kindle to another device? What happens to your books if the kindle doesn't work?

message 69: by Allan (new)

Allan I can access all of the Kindle books I bought via the app on my phone. If you have a tablet or laptop, you'll be able to access them all this way without a problem.

message 70: by [deleted user] (new)

I've never had a problem.

message 71: by Seraphina (new)

Seraphina Ok cool, thanks for the help. Someone told me there kindle was broken and I just wondered what happened to the books. Good to know

message 72: by Paul (new)

Paul I posted it in a different thread but can't remember where. You need to upload the picture to a sharing site lile tinypics.com or imgur.com
I use tinypics because it gives you options of the links one of which contains the html code prewritten so all you do is copy this link and paste it into the goodreads thread and it should work ( the correct link to copy is the one with code written between arrow brackets like these. 《》

message 73: by Paul (new)

Paul When I'm at a pc I might get a few screen grabs to explain it better

message 74: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (bdegar) | 4626 comments I see this thread has been quiet but I have a question.
I have a list of pending friends requests. I haven't approved them because I don't want my daily updates to get longer than they currently are.Is it possible to approve friends without getting all their updates? I assume that there isn't.
Second question, what happens when you "unfriend" people? Not that I have a problem with any friends, but I am trying to find ways to cut down on my daily feed.

message 75: by Paul (new)

Paul I don't think you can only get part of a feed. you can have top friends and normal friends , which limits the number of posts based on posts they made but you'll see all book related stiff for all.
If you unfriend someone they will be gone from your feed but you'll still be on theirs. They get no notice about it.

Thanks Paul. I'll look into the level of "friends". I've made some interesting friends totally independent of any groups I am in.

It was easy to do! It seems that the default setting is top friend. Also, apparently from the home page you can view updates from top friends only. I went ahead and approved my 5 friend requests but deselected 'top friend'. Thanks for your help.

message 78: by Paul (new)

Paul No worries Barbara

message 79: by Susan (new)

Susan | 4707 comments Paul, here's my question. I got a galley proof from Adrian McKinty in a PDF file. Is there any way I can open and read it on my Kindle or do I have to read it all on the computer? Help please.

message 80: by Paul (new)

Paul As far as I know once you save the pdf onto the kindle by conncting it to the PC its should be straight forward enough. The kindle should have a navigate to file setup and find the pdf and open. this won't work on some of the older kindles though and the quality varies between pdfs.

message 81: by Margo (new)

Margo Not sure if anyone can help me with this - have sent question in to GR help.

Is there any way to change the font? This new font has much tighter line spacing and is IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO READ.

message 82: by Paul (new)

Paul Its not possible to change but common consensus seems to be that if you use Chrome the font looks much better if you change the zoom to 110% (in the settings menu opened by clicking the three bars in the top right of your browser window) for the Goodreads site. It will stay at 110% while other sites stay at 100%.
If your looking in Internet Explorer your mental and deserve to suffer to bad font ;-)

Margo Paul wrote: "Its not possible to change but common consensus seems to be that if you use Chrome the font looks much better if you change the zoom to 110% (in the settings menu opened by clicking the three bars ..."

THANKS PAUL BUT MY DEFAULT FONT IS 150%. GUESS I'LL JUST HAVE TO STOP USING,

message 84: by Seraphina (new)

Seraphina Margo if you use the phone app there is no change in font size, I don't know how you are with reading off your phone though

message 85: by Seraphina (new)

Seraphina They may change it again hopefully margo. Alot of people seem to be unhappy with it

message 86: by Paul (new)

Paul Its a bit dodgy all right

message 87: by Margo (new)

Margo No luck seraphina. my phone too small to read, mobile app on my tablet has new font. getting eye strain

message 88: by Seraphina (new)

Seraphina If you click on the blog 'did you notice something different' people have advice on how to improve the readability

message 89: by Seraphina (new)

Seraphina Someone has said if you press the ctrl button with your + button it makes it easier to read. Also ctrl and - to return to normal

message 90: by Margo (new)

Margo ah I'll just read the one liners til it lmproves

message 91: by Paul (new)

Paul I submitted a complaint with the suggestion of the ability to pick font. We'll see if they listen to anyone

message 92: by Margo (new)

Margo Oh thanks Emma. I've become a bit addicted to you guys ;)

message 93: by Paul (new)

Paul The phone version still seems much clearer at least

message 94: by Margo (new)

Margo Paul wrote: "The phone version still seems much clearer at least"

It's actually a little better on my laptop. Phone to small for me. Tablet unusable :(

message 95: by Susan (new)

Susan | 4707 comments Thank you, Paul. I again I over reacted. I simply went to the Web on my Kindle, clicked on the pdf file on the email and was ready to go. I just get terrorized when I am asked to do something different on my computer.

Thank you for bringing up the font. I thought I was going crazy. It's so hard to read. Is there a petition or some place to complain?

message 96: by Paul (new)

Paul Theres a lot of complaints gone in so far .

message 97: by Susan (new)

Susan | 4707 comments Where do complaints go?

message 99: by Paul (new)

Paul Either Margos link or a mail to their help desk

message 100: by Paul (new)

Paul Anyone having issues with the fonts is being told to email support@goodreads.com .There is a way to tweak the fonts in your browser i think so worth a try for any struggling.
