As you said Mark, the best parts of the book are that it's a modern day noir thriller with an array of flawed characters. I couldn't have said it better myself and that's what made this a great book to me.

Aiesha (bigtexasaj) Finally finished the book & felt empty afterwards. I was like "huh?? That's it?" Unanswered questions make me so mad, especially when those questions are what the whole story was about! For example, the diamonds. I guess that goes along with whether Liana is dead or not. I can't decide what I believe. In a way, I can see George's theory because she was so manipulative but then again, I can also see how she could very well be dead and he's just in denial. As someone said before, he could just be reading too much into the book and postcard and won't give up on his search for her. Either day, I thought the book was just ok. Not as good as Gone Girl to me, since I've seen some comparisons but still an entertaining read. I'm ready for the next one!! What book is it and when again??

Hi Aiesha. We'll be reading Dear Daughter by Elizabeth Little starting October 15th.

Open endings seem to be frustrating and I can understand that. I know that we want that ending to be satisfying since we went to the trouble of the book. I still feel that while the ending wasn't that great, it doesn't compare to Dennis Lehane's book, Shutter Island.

As far as Gone Girl is concerned, my wife and I saw the movie yesterday. I had mentioned on another thread that the alternate ending for the movie was worse than the book. In the end and I thought that the movie was worse than the book in any case. I don't see much of a comparison to Peter Swanson's book and my wife's reaction to the movie was that she thought that it was similar to Fatal Attraction. She didn't read the book.

In any case, we'll all have different opinions about the book but your thoughts do go with the majority and I understand that. I guess we'll see how we like Dear Daughter.

Rhonda Lee Wunder | 162 comments I thought the ending of Gone Girl the movie was close to the ending of Gone Girl the book. Did I not see something. Before I went and saw the movie, I wasn't sure how they would portray Amy's part which I thought stayed fairly close to the book. Since it ended up being a very long movie, I guess they had to condense some parts like the lawyer.

Seems that they also condensed her relationship with her parents but what could you do since the movie was so long.
