ABANDONED. A book about a girl who moves to an island that used to have a whaling station on it and sees ghosts of the people who lived there.

Looking for a book I read in high school so about 5-7 years ago. Pretty sure it was set in New Zealand, as I remember the girl leaving Auckland to go stay with her Aunty on an island in a bay. And she meets a boy her age who lives in the island too. And she keeps seeing ghosts/flashbacks to the people who lived there when it was a whaling island. The characters in the past where a young woman, her abusive husband and a young guy that they saved from drowning I think. And then at the end there was some big drama thing and it ended with the two characters from present time in a cave or something. :)
