Anna Jarin watched the girl for a long while before speaking up. "Okay. I'll apprentice to a blacksmith and learn how to make that part. I'm sure you want to get home." He mumbled, dropping his gaze back to his hands. Why he was agreeing with her and trying to work with her, he had no idea.

message 152: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments After getting the error message Dasha pulled her sleeve back down over the cuff and breathed a sigh, leaning her head back against the wall and closing her eyes for a moment. Like this she could almost pretend that this was just some bad dream, that she would open her eyes and everything would be as it should be. The prince's sudden agreement ruined the illusion and she opened her eyes to find the dusty shack again. She hadn't expected him to agree and consequently couldn't think of anything to say for a long moment. ". . . Alright. Hopefully we can get that in motion tomorrow."

message 153: by Anna (new)

Anna Jarin was silent. He wasn't sure what to say that wouldn't sound bad. So he closed his eyes and lay down fully on the ground. "What about now? We could go ask around, then start tomorrow after getting the job today."

((Would you like to be the blacksmith or no?))

message 154: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments Dasha considered it a moment. "Perhaps. . . but we need to craft a backstory first. Most likely it will be needed, and it's important that it stays consistent as to not draw unwanted attention and to keep you safe." She knew there was little room for error. In some areas of this time it wasn't uncommon for individuals to get shot simply from looking at someone else wrong. If an inconsistent story was used it was very possible that others might suspect the prince of being an outlaw in this time and it was hard telling what could be done then. She didn't yet know how this town was, but it was best not to chance too much.

((I can, I don't mind either way honestly))

message 155: by Anna (new)

Anna ((Okay thank you.))

"Then let's keep it simple." Jarin said. He ignored the part where she mentioned 'keeping him safe.' With everyone wanting to shoot him or turn him in, including her, that was pointless to say.
"So. What's the main idea? Maybe you're my sister or something-though we don't look super similar-and we moved here with our parents, who are both old. So thus I decided to try to get a job to take care of them?"

message 156: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments "Sounds alright except for the with parents part. Ditch that detail." Dasha replied. "It is easier and safer to just play it off like they are dead, died on the journey here." She further supplied. ". . . plus it might score you some sympathy points that will work in your favor."

message 157: by Anna (new)

Anna "Okay. Sooo...I'm your brother who is so graciously taking care of you because you are young and frail and need help in this terrifying world." He grinned. "Maybe if I can pull this off, I can go back to the future with you and disguise myself as an actor."

message 158: by Anna (new)

Anna ?

message 159: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments The story did seem a little bit rediculous given the actual situation. ". . . Don't flatter yourself too much, it shouldn't be that hard of a job." Dasha replied, "Unless we give them reason to suspect otherwise, they will believe what ever you initially tell them."

message 160: by Anna (new)

Anna "Fine." Jarin shrugged a bit. "Though don't forget we wouldn't be in any of this mess if it hadn't been for you capturing me in the first place. When do we start?"

message 161: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments Dasha chose to ignore that first statement. If she wouldn't of it would of just been someone else anyway. His capture had been inevitable, as far as she was concerned she was just the one unfortunate enough to get to him first and get stuck in this mess. "No time like the present." She answered with a shrug of her own. ". . . or in this case present past I guess." She stood up and brushed herself off.

message 162: by Anna (new)

Anna "Ha, ha." Jarin said dryly. "That's so funny I can't stop laughing." He stood up and stretched, cracking his back five times. "Are you coming or is it just me?"

message 163: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments Dasha grimaced with each crack of his back. She was able to tolerate blood and other generally disturbing sights but the sound of cracking joints tended to get on her nerves. "I am most definately not letting you go alone yet . . . I will stay out of the way for the most part, but within distance to make sure you don't seriously mess anything up."

message 164: by Anna (new)

Anna Jarin gave her a withering look. "Listen. Even if I messed up, how could my fragile sister come and pull me out of whatever I did? That would be horribly unrealistic. I know this sounds crazy, but try to put some faith in me that I can actually do this." He said irritably. "Come on, then, sister." He said, ducking out of the hut and heading outside to wait for her.

message 165: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments Dasha was unphased by the nasty look he shot at her and chose to ignore his comment. Of course she had about a thousand arguments she could use to defend her way of thinking, but she let them stay un voiced. She breathed a heavy sigh before following the prince out the door. "They're going to want to know your name" she said as she exited the structure. "It would probably be best to give them a fake one." She had no idea what this prince's name was- all she had been given was a picture to go off of for the assignment- but she was willing to bet it was probably something obnoxious like Edward or Caspian or Alexander the eighth- something that wouldn't fit here.

message 166: by Anna (new)

Anna "Hmm...something Wild Westerny. What about Hank? Orrrr....Jesse, or Bill? What will your name be?" Jarin asked, glancing at her. "Actually, I don't even know your real name."

message 167: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments Right, she hadn't even introduced herself. Usually she wasn't around assignments long enough to worry about it. "Dasha." She supplied, "I go by Dasha . . . It's usually a good idea to stick to something close, so I'll go by Della here."

message 168: by Anna (new)

Anna Jarin nodded. "All right. I'll be Jesse. My real name is Jarin. Anyway, is there anything else to know?"

message 169: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments Definately not a name that would of fit. Dasha thought for a minute then shook her head. ". . . No, nothing that I can think of right now anyway . . . Oh, except try not to talk so formal or use large words. You'll pick up on how they talk here pretty quick."

message 170: by Anna (new)

Anna "Yep. Anyway, talking all formal irritates me and I get sick of it. Got sick of it, I mean." Jarin said, walking with the tiniest hint of swagger. "I'm Jesse." He practiced, with a Western accent.

message 171: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments Dasha resisted the urge to roll her eyes and didn't say anything further, letting him practice as he pleased. After a bit of walking the blacksmith's building came into view, marked by a well worn wooden sign.

message 172: by Anna (new)

Anna "You stay here." Jarin told Dasha, then started walking forward confidently. He looked around, getting close to the building. "Anyone here?" He called out with his realistic accent. He tilted his head, yawning, and stuck his hands in his pockets.

message 173: by Anna (new)

Anna ((You still interested?))

message 174: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments ((Sorry, I havent been getting the notifications for this for some reason!))

Normally Dasha wouldn't of tolerated taking orders from him, but she wasn't going to compromise the agreement by arguing. Besides it was probably for the best that she stay out of the way. She sighed and sat down on the raised edge of the rough wooden walkway that connected all of the buildings.
The steady sound of banging could be heard from the back far corner of the building where the forging area was. There a short, rather heavy set man stood, bent his work, hammering away at a red hot piece of metal- the metallic echo deafening in the small space.

message 175: by Anna (new)

Anna ((It's okay!))

Jarin smirked at her and turned quickly so she wouldn't be able to retort back at him.
As he walked, the ringing grew louder, causing his own ears to sound like they were ringing. He gritted his teeth, keeping his face calm and relaxed. Perhaps if the man didn't see the strain on his face from the noise, he could get an apprenticeship easier.
When he reached the building, he stood there watching him a moment. He needed a way to get the man to see him, but he couldn't do anything stupid. Jarin leaned against a post and waited.

message 176: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments The man continued on with his work, unaware of Jarin's presence, for a few moments until he was happy with whatever he was working on and dunked the red hot metal into a bucket of cool water and then setting it aside. He wiped away the sheen of sweat that had built up on his forehead with his forearm, turning to go get another tool, but quickly saw Jarin leaned against a post and turned to face him instead. "Ah, what can I do for yuh?" He asked, doffing his thick gloves and wiping his hands on the heavy apron he wore.

Dasha hated just sitting there. Mostly she imagined she hated the fact that she had no control over this situation. It was frustrating, knowing that she was at the mercy of all of this. She didn't know what would come out of the prince's mouth, and that was bringing lots of unease upon her. She scanned the area, taking note of little details in attempt to keep her mind busy and not completely idle.

message 177: by Anna (new)

Anna Jarin jerked his chin towards the fire and bellows. "I was just watching you work, it looked interesting." He shifted a bit, hoping he was doing this right. Then he got straight to the point. "I'm looking for a job. Or an apprenticeship of some sort. I've never worked with metal before but I'm willing to learn and do my best."

message 178: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments "Ah" The black Smith smiled slightly "Its always good to see others interested in the trade, it is not easy work . . ." He paused a minute, the slight smile fading from his aging face as he sighed "Unfortunately I'm afraid I do not have anything to offer. Business has been slow lately, and I can not afford to hire anyone."

message 179: by Anna (new)

Anna Jarin felt his heart sink, though it was strange why he felt that way. "Nothing at all...?" He pretended to sound disappointed and slumped his shoulders. "Well...okay...I guess we'll have to move on. My sister is...she's not doing too well. You think you know of anywhere else? We've looked everywhere else around town..."

message 180: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments ". . . Well, no, cant say I do unfortunately." The old blacksmith answered in response to Jarin's question. He fell silent a long moment, seeming to be considering something. ". . . I suppose I could find some odd jobs for you to do around here. Can't promise it'll pay much of anything, but you'll be able to get some experience under your belt."

Dasha was beginning to get impatient. She could only count so many knots in the wood. She wasn't used to sitting idle, she was used to being the one in charge who could single handedly handle anything. That wasn't going to be an option here. She entertained the idea of sneaking around the side of the building to try and get an idea of how the prince was doing.

message 181: by Anna (new)

Anna "Really? You'll take me on?" Jarin's eyes lit up and he barely managed to hide his grin. The last thing he wanted was for the blacksmith to assume he was a stupid naive little boy, like Dasha thought constantly. "Thank you. Thank you so much." He said quietly, nodding his head a bit and trying to appear humbled for finally being able to get a job. "When can I start?" He asked after a few more minutes of considering what to say.

message 182: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments "Tomorrow." The black smith answered, "bright and early." He turned and straightened the tools on his workspace as he mumbled to himself more than anything "that'll give me a chance to figure out what to do with ya"

message 183: by Anna (new)

Anna "Thank you so much, sir," Jarin nodded, then turned and slipped away towards wherever Dasha was supposedly waiting for him. He hoped he hadn't overdone it, but he was feeling proud that he had done it all on his own without Dasha intervening. Perfect. He grinned to himself and walked with a bit of swagger as he went in search of her.

message 184: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments Dasha, frustrated with sitting idle and waiting, sprung up from where she had been sitting and turned towards the building. As she did so though she spotted the prince and remained standing where she was, observing him for a hint of how it had went as he approached. From his body language she guessed well. For whatever reason she found that annoyed her slightly.

message 185: by Anna (new)

Anna "Hey. Guess what?" Jarin smirked, advancing towards her. "It worked. I've got a job now. Imagine that. A prince actually doing something useful for once." He grinned at her, then winked. "What next? I start bright and early tomorrow."

message 186: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments Dasha could think of about a million snarky remarks to reply with but managed to leave them un voiced, instead settling for an eyeroll. The last thing she needed was to jeopardize the agreement by upsetting him, she didn't have anything else to offer beyond what she had already placed on the table. ". . . I guess the best thing would be to walk around a bit, let you get a feel for the area and time." She wasn't fond of the idea or any of this for that matter, it went against all of her training and values, but right now her hand was forced. It was statistically a smaller risk to enteract with and acquaint him with the time now than it was to trust that he would be fine completely winging it at this job. She slowly started off towards the remaining cluster of buildings of the town beyond the blacksmith shop. "Have you had much experience with horses?"

message 187: by Anna (new)

Anna Jarin nodded, walking alongside her. "Sounds good to me." When she asked him about horses, he nodded again. "Before you kidnapped me I had a stallion. Got him when he was just a colt, trained him myself." There was a hint of sadness in his voice, for he did miss his horse. But there was no time for mourning right now.
"I hope you're not expecting us to get a horse, because we're really poor and don't have the money. If you're saying that because I'll be shoeing horses, then that's fine."

message 188: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments "Don't be so dramatic. It is not kidnapping if you have a bounty over your head." Dasha stated evenly as they continued along, as if it were a normal everyday topic. To her it was. "I simply wanted to make sure you know how to handle yourself around them. I am certain there will be many horses you will be shoeing, and there will most definately be instances where you will be around them elsewhere . . . Would be a shame if you didn't know how to handle yourself and got your perfect pearly white teeth knocked in."

message 189: by Anna (new)

Anna "Excuse me?" Jarin frowned. "Listen. I don't know how many times I've told you this, but being a prince really isn't fun at all. I'd go on and on about it but you just think that I would be talking because i think I deserve it or something like that." He rolled his eyes. She had to keep making fun of him at every chance she got. Jarin almost wished she could just go on and kill him so he wouldn't have to hear any of it anymore.

message 190: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments Dasha continued on, unphased by his mini speech. She looked ahead to the buildings, not once glancing in his direction. "I didn't nor have I ever during this time together insinuated that being a prince is fun. You have assumed that I hold that judgement. If one takes their role as a part of a monarch seriously it can be a difficult and draining job. I recognize that." Her tone stayed even and calm. ". . . You might want to take note of the location of all these other businesses, you may be asked to run errands or make an odd delivery."

message 191: by Anna (new)

Anna Jarin gritted his teeth and ignored her first comments. "I have been, Miss Dasha." He said, grunting. "What could I possibly do to make you happier with me? Or is it possible to make you do anything besides scowl and pretend the world is against you when it isn't?" They walked past the barber/surgeon, and up ahead was the tavern-noisy and with a smell of alcohol rising up from the planks out front.

message 192: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments As Dasha was unused to holding her tounge, this comment of his struck a nerve and caused her to stop in her tracks, turning quick on her heel to face him with an icy stare."The best thing that you can do is just not worry about it. The world may not truly be against me, but right now it sure as hell feels like it." Despite her temper she managed to keep her voice low without any sort of rise in volume. "I've worked hard to build a name and a living for myself out of nothing and now I'm stuck here, jeopardizing all of that. And to make matters even worse I'm stuck here with no one to rely on but you. As if having my life ruined by royalty just once wasn't enough." As soon as the last part slipped out she realized her mistake. Too much information. She didn't like anyone knowing anything about her past, and here she had unwittingly let something slip in a release of pent up frustration. She stood there a moment longer before taking off again, quickening her pave so that she would hopefully stay a few strides in front of him. At this point she didn't know who she hated more: him for just existing or herself for letting her frustration get the best of her.

message 193: by Anna (new)

Anna "That's dramatic. The world isn't against you, it's against me, because everyone actually does want to kill me." Jarin shot back. "And yeah, maybe you have to rely on me. Maybe that means you should learn to trust other people other than your own self. And I'm sorry I ruined your life, because I certainly ran after you begging for you to capture me." He snapped, quickening his own pace to match hers. "You don't like royalty because of something that happened in your past-but does that mean that I'm that royalty?"

message 194: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments Dasha gritted her teeth for a moment to keep herself from saying anything else stupid, walking in silence a moment until she trusted herself enough to say one phrase. "Whatever, let's just drop it." Hopefully this would be resolved quickly and they would soon be out of here, free to part ways and never cross paths again.

message 195: by Anna (new)

Anna Jarin shot her an irritated look but said nothing further. His back was still bothering him from when Sasha had dragged him across the woodpile, and he hoped it was nothing too serious. Probably not. He wouldnt tell Dasha at all.

message 196: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments Dasha continued on in silence, letting what she currently felt fizzle out as she glanced around at everything the little town had to offer. It wasn't all that much, but she hadn't expected it to be anyway. It didn't take long to see practically everything. She wondered how long it would take for this place to seem familiar and not foreign. She hoped that she wouldn't be around long enough to find out.

message 197: by Anna (new)

Anna Jarin refused to say anything else, not wanting to get Sasha angry with him again. There was a small restaurant and a post office on one side, and a rickety old building on the other with an old sign hanging out front. Jarin couldn't read it.

message 198: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments By the time there was nothing more to see Dasha had settled back down. She came to a slow stop, turning back to face the direction they had just come from. ". . . Anything you wanted to explore in more detail?" She knew that in order for this to work she was going to have to widen the distance the invisible tether allowed, meaning that he would soon have the freedom to wonder the town. She preferred to be around him if he was going to explore further, it was less of a risk that way than if he were to go on his own.

message 199: by Anna (new)

Anna Jarin decided to try another tactic. "Whatever you think is best." He said with a shrug, glancing down the dusty road. He looked at her for a minute, then looked away, stuffing his boot in the dirt.

message 200: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (papergalaxies) | 2178 comments Dasha was half caught off guard by his answer. She had expected him to say something snippy given the disagreement they had just had. ". . . Well, uh, I suppose you will get acquainted with everything soon enough." She knew that was probably the poorer decision, but she didn't think she could personally stomach going against her training any further today.
