We all know that the harry potter series had lots of secrets but what was the most shocking? I personally think the elder wand because you didn't harry didn't know about it till the last 2 chapters.

That harry was a horcrux!

The Dumbledore family secret.

The most shocking secret for me was that Snape had loved Lily his whole life! I cried and cried when I read that chapter. "You have your mother's eyes," were Snape's last words. Who could not be moved by that line?

Carole He only said that in the movie. In the book his last words were 'Look at me.' ...more

Of course that fact that Harry was a Horcrux!

I wasn't very surprised by the fact that Snape had been innocent all along - if I may, I liked Snape before he was cool :)

dumbledore's past and how he was actually quite 'dark' for a moment

SNAPE IS INNOCENT!!

Dumbledore's family history

Snape's allegiance wasn't the most shocking to me because all the way through the novels it was a case of "is he Dumbledore's man or not?" rather than "he is definitely evil." It was always a possibility in the background.

What really got me was Lupin and Tonks dying!

Dumbledore's past

All of Dumbledore's secrets, that he wanted to kill Harry, that he knew Harry was a horocrux, his friendship with grindewald, his family...

That Harry was a horcrux! :S

Dumbledore wanted to "sacrifice" Harry and Snape didn't.

Harry was the last horcrux.

For me the most shocking secret (or at least the most satisfying) was finding out Snape's true alliance. The entire series he was in this ambiguous grey area - not good and not bad. He appeared to be working for Voldemort, and yet Dumbledore trusted him and we were supposed to trust that Dumbledore knew best. I remember agonising over every clue and constantly changing my mind on whether he was a double or triple or whatever agent! So for me finding out he was truly on Dumbledore's side was the greatest secret.

Dumbledore's dark past

The most shocking secret for me was when we find out about Snape's love for Lily.

Yeah, about Snape loving Lily

well, I read the books in fourth grade about five years ago, so i dont exactly remember what i thought was the greatest shock, but Ill go with people dying: like tonks and lupin, snape, mad-eye, bellatrix(awesome!), fred, etc. I loved all the characters so much (yes, i was even attached to the evil ones) that it hurt so much to know that Rowling killed them off.

I agree with Rose Ann. That Snape loved Lily his whole life.

The deaths definitely, its a different kind of secret probably but it was the most awful, mind-numbing and the most shocking... and the final book killed a lot of my favorite characters, who i haven't the foggiest would survive six books just so they'd die horribly at the end, so yeah.

Nagini's body snatching!

Dumbeldore's relationship with Gillert Grindewald.
