Year: Read sometime between 2010-2016. Don't think the book was very old.

Story Details: The book has a modern setting. The main character is an African American man. I think in the beginning of the book he is just let out of prison. Pretty sure the crime he investigates involves the murder of a judge at his rural vacation home/log cabin. At one point the investigator travels to a location in Virginia. I'm most confident about the ending details: the investigator hires a camera crew and pretends to make a documentary focusing on the criminal in order to catch him.
