The Boleyn Deceit changes up history related to the Tudor family and then creates a story around this new view. Here King Henry XIII and Ann Boleyn had a son, William, who survives to become king. William is young and his closest friend and advisor is Dominic. They are both in love with a women named Minuette. The three of them along with William's older sister, Princess Elizabeth, are the main characters. This is the second book in the series and although it can stand alone, it probably would have been more helpful for me to know the background of the first novel when I started reading it.
War, determining who to trust, revenge, and family loyalty are all included in this story. Minuette and Dominic come across as strong characters and their actions are the ones I enjoyed following the most. For me it was hard to take the story seriously, since we know it is a different version of history. However, many others who read about the Tudors would find it a fun view. It is a quick read and watching the roles people position for in court is always interesting.
I fell in love with this series and I read all six. I’m not even necessarily a lover of alternative history, but something about this, and therefore central characters just grabbed me! I loved it.
