I read in book in the early 1990's about a teenager who grew up in a rich family in Chicago (who own a famous department store on the Michigan Mile) and fell in love with a guy without money and a bit rough around the edges. Her father disapproved of their relationship. The guy goes off to work on oil rigs and makes a fortune. Then he comes back 10 years later and plans to take over the department store unless the woman allows him three dates to prove she still loves him and wants to be with him. She is engaged to another man at that time. I think the heroine's name was Meredith and the hero might have been Royce. Help! I loved this book and want to find it again.

I am a big McNaught fan but also like books about department stores. Did you ever read Young and Fair? That was a favorite of mine as a teen.
