I do have to say that the miniseries makes one major and, to my mind, unforgivable change to the plot. (view spoiler)[They kill of both of the twins, eliminating one of my all time favorite characters, Grace! (hide spoiler)]

Well, that episode was devastating - great acting and writing.

The film scene that had me in tears was the Armistice Day dinner when (view spoiler)[The students start singing the famous WW1 song "There's a long, long trail a-winding into the land of my dreams..." and Davy, overcome with weeping slips out of the hall eventually to be comforted by Howarth in a gruff but gentle way. (hide spoiler)] Howarth is another one of my favorite characters and Alan MacNaughtan perfectly captures him in that scene.

Totally agree - (view spoiler)[I find it upsetting later when Howard seems jealous of carter and Davy making it up after both are passed over! But how sad was that scene when he tells Davy about the girl he loved 20 years ago dying? And leaving him 8000 pounds! Devastating... (hide spoiler)]
