This month's group read is a powerful and timely book on immigration from Beacon Press.

Eileen Truax, a journalist born in Mexico who has lived in the United States since 2004, knew that the Trump administration would not be the beginning of hardship for Mexicans living in America, but a continuation of decades-long racist and xenophobic attacks on their communities. She also knew that the opposition to this treatment has been building, and it was time for the countless stories of resistance and activism to be shared.

In How Does It Feel to Be Unwanted?: Stories of Resistance and Resilience From Mexicans Living in the United States, Truax highlights the lives of 13 individuals in order to help break through the lies and the rhetoric that aims to criminalize immigrants, and instead reveal their true, complex, and powerful stories. She writes, “They have refused to be the victims of the broken systems of both countries and have triumphed over adversity against all expectations.”
