OK, I found the "Close Calls" list in the "suggestions" thread, but I haven't found the "Big Losers" list yet. I know I made one but I may not have posted it.
Thanks!
Thanks!
I'm scared of the Big Losers list.......
Not really, I think they're probably just things that people weren't focused on at the time, or there was simply a list of books they wanted to read more. No matter what, everyone will hit or miss; not everyone likes the same books. It would be interesting to compile the average ratings by members who read it at that time.

Hehe Allan, the funny thing is the majority of the "loser" titles were nominated by the two of us, so it's a win-win for us!
Kate, here's your post with the low vote count titles:

makes sense that they are books that are hard to find. I sometimes do vote against a book on that basis.
Before I post the list, I will do a little research and see about their status . . .

Allan, the list of "big losers"
The Healer's War 1 vote, 2.3%
Midnight Robber 1 vote, 2.3%
Synners 3 votes, 7.1% (nominated and lost twice, so needs a 3d chance)
The Drowning Girl 2 votes, 5.7%
Mission Child 1 vote, 2.9%
The Yiddish Policemen's Union 1 vote, 7.1%
Immortality, Inc. 2 votes, 7.4%
I know that I already own:
Synners and
The Healer's War and
Midnight Robber and
Immortality Inc
from Kindle US. They must have been on sale for no more than $3 or I would not have bought them.
By looking on Amazon right now, I see that Midnight is $2.99 US Kindle right now and Immortality is $1.99.
My public library has Kindle of Yiddish Policeman (I can just borrow it) and it's like $13 US Kindle. Ditto the Drowning Girl, though I will have to put it on hold.
And finally Mission Child is only available in used paperback, but it's available pretty cheap https://smile.amazon.com/Mission-Chil...
So Allan, although I thought your idea that these books lost through unavailability was genius, your theory is not supported by the facts.
You can look these up in Open Library, if you wish, but I think I'm OK without . . .
Thanks!

Hi, Anthony.
There are two categories for September, which several of us discussed here https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
One is "Close Calls" and the other is "Bad Losers" and they are for books that almost won the monthly vote and for ones that got hardly any votes. These will be NOT voted on together but in two separate categories for September.
I was going to put the polls up on the 20th, but I can do it sooner . . .
Need coffee first . . .

Allan and Rebecca, I see that I was wrong about who proposed the genius hypothesis about the availability of the "Big Losers" unfortunately not borne out by further testing.
Rebecca, still think genius idea, and Allan, thanks for Open Library help . . .

"Close calls" are books that were slightly edged out in the voting (or bumped by an ENC) during the months that we have existed. "Big Losers" are books that nobody voted for, so they were apparently not popular, but we have to read the unpopular ones as well as the popular ones if we are ever going to get through all these books. We don't want to be stuck with a bunch of duds after a few years! We'll all quit!
So, around the 20th, I will put up the lists that I already made up of "Close calls" and "Big Losers" (assuming I can figure out what thread that was!! If you know, please tell me!!) Then we will each vote in two categories for the two selections for September.
Talk atcha all later!
