I think I read this more than 5 years ago. Current time frame setting, small town in possibly Midwest or West USA. 99% sure author is female. I read a lot of Linda Howard, Jayne Ann Krentz, Kay Hooper, Julie Garwood, Carla Neggers, Lisa Jackson, but searched through and couldn't find this specific book. It popped in my mind and I don't remember how/why the siege happens and got to reread it (LOL).
