Catherine Pinkett | 23 comments Just starting my latest section. I am enjoying this book so far

Elizabeth Meadows (lizziefaye) | 424 comments Thanks Catherine! Sorry I didn't get this set up properly. I'm still at the hospital with my daughter and get easily sidetracked with all the things!
You can use this thread to discuss the first four chapters of part one. But I will go right on and set up the next thread for Week 4 where you all can leave your comments for the entire Part 2 of the book if that is easier.

Elizabeth Meadows (lizziefaye) | 424 comments I had begun reading the first chapter of this section titled The Twelfth of July when I saw Elizabeth Tyree's comment that the audio version of House at Riverton is titled The Shifting Fog. I was very excited to learn this news since I had originally thought that this is an audio book that I would be willing to purchase. So of course I had to start over and I haven't quite gotten up to the point where I left off yet.
The audio is interesting because it starts off differently, with some added things from the movie script. Maybe those will be worked in later into our print versions.
The one issue I'm having with the audio version is the narrator's pronunciation of Emmeline. Because it looks so similar to my daughter's name which is Emeline, I really wanted her to pronounce it like we do, but she doesn't. I don't know if this is a very common name in England, but I suspect that the narrator is pronouncing it how it is more commonly pronounced there with a long e sound for the last syllable. We pronounce it with a long i sound which rhymes with Caroline. My ancestors with that name were from the deep south, born in the 1800s. So I'll just have to get over it already! :)

Elizabeth Meadows (lizziefaye) | 424 comments Turns out that I had in fact caught up to the same point in print and on audio, so earlier today I finished the Twelfth of July chapter and the Icarus chapter. But then when I sat down to read I decided to go ahead and keep up in the print book too. I'm curious to continue in both since there are differences.
I'm still thinking that Frederick is Graces father, although that might just be a direction the author is leading us so there can be a big twist later. It's just fun to speculate on these things, just as it's also fun to get surprises in the end.
I'm still a little confused about how Lady Clementine fits in. Is she related to the family?

Elizabeth Tyree | 4 comments I believe that Lady Clementine is a grandmother/great grandmother to the family but I'm really not sure.

Catherine Pinkett | 23 comments I've always heard it pronounce Emma lie ne long I Elizabeth. I'm UK not used much now but was in historical times

Catherine Pinkett | 23 comments Sorry I'm behind girls. Were on a road trip visiting family. So will catch up Catherine

Elizabeth Meadows (lizziefaye) | 424 comments I finished this section a few days ago and neglected to comment about it. Now I'm in the car on my way home from visiting my sister for her 40th anniversary event. I'm driving straight through and just finished Lilac Girls and now I'm getting back to House at Riverton.
I can't think of much to comment about in this section. I was surprised that Hannah decided to marry. I wonder if she really is in love or has an ulterior motive.
