Mary | 6 comments Hi there! This might be a tough one.
But I remember as a very small kid going at the library this book about a clown/mime. He was more of a mime than a clown, the colors i remember where very pastel, and I remember that main character (male) was not a very good mime, he had an audience with the king, I think the other mimes were making fun of him? And i THINK if I remember correctly the mime juggled for the king, or something to that effect. I think the moral of the story was along the lines of "be yourself" and do what you love even if people say you can't.
There was something about that book that really touched me as a kid (I experienced a lot of traumatic abuse as a child) and I remember that book being an escape from what I was experiencing.
I asked the library they had no idea (of course). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Mary | 6 comments If it helps at all, i remember the characters were dressed (I think) in more of the Harlequin clothes. Like those small creepy porcelain dolls with the black and white cheques? It was certainly a childrens book, but I know it did have a fair amount of words, even if it was 100% a picture book. And in terms of what year, well i was born in 1990, and so I would guess I was at least 7 year old when I read it. I am going to say the book is older than 1997. But for all I know it could have been written in 1997. I also remember vaguely a page with a castle, or some stone walls and like the clown was practicing juggling maybe?

Mary, per the group rules at the top of the group's home page, please put genre and plot details into your header/title. These can be any details (but not spoilers) that you've already written above.

If you're using the desktop site, you should be seeing greyish "edit". If not, just comment and mod will change it.

It's not Two Hundred Rabbits, is it?

Mary | 6 comments i would like to edit it but the original message doesn't have the edit button. the genre is children book.

Mary | 6 comments Also, I checked the suggestions and it's not any of those.
I feel like the drawings in the book were more "adult" than cartoony. The Clown of God's characters were more rounded and child like, while the feeling I get from the memory of my book was more "skinny" or wispy characters.
I also have a feeling memory of the art being a lot like Maxfield Parrish.

Mary, I added plot details to your topic header/title. Feel free to update it by clicking the small "edit" link on the full desktop website - not the mobile website or app.

Is this a picture book (about 32-48 pages) or a chapter book with mostly words?

Krista | 148 comments The Clown of God was my first thought as well. I also remember The Jewel Heart having more of the art style you describe, but I can't remember the plot well enough to say whether it matches your description.

Mary | 6 comments The book is defiantly a picture book. Not a chapter book.

Julai | 31 comments Could it be Tales of the Kingdom? It's a beautifully illustrated collection of short stories I really loved as a child. One story is about a juggler who has a different rhythm from the rest of the jugglers, and he's made fun of for it, until the juggling master finds out and tells him he has a comic rhythm and it's really special (the ol' Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer situation).
