SOLVED. Reluctant Romance Writer's Manuscript Used to Create Perfect Guy [s]

I first read this romance novel in PB in perhaps the '90s. The MC is a journalist/columnist? turned romance novelist, and the book contains a scene of her at a romance writers convention, though I seem to remember that she's not a fan of romances at first. She's "pursued" by a mysterious man on a motorcycle, (view spoiler)[who turns out to be the brother of a writer friend. The MC knows the brother, but sees him as a nerdy, unattractive guy. It turns out he had cancer or something, and once he got better he used the MC's manuscript to turn himself into the perfect guy to attract her. His sister is a loopy but sweet friend who encourages her brother. (hide spoiler)]

The MC is befriended by a ditzy romance writer and meets her brother, a cancer survivor, who is overweight and losing his hair. The MC may think of him as a "moon pie" or something similar.

The MC is living in a small house or garage on someone else's property while she writes her novel. And there are scenes of the mysterious man driving his motorcycle around at night.

The Boyfriend School? This was made into a movie in 1990 starring Steve Guttenberg as the title male. Pretty funny movie.
