Nominations are now open for August 2019!

Don't forget... it's Christmas in August, so let's see your "cool" selections!

Amanda Flower, Shelley Shepard Gray, Beverly Lewis, Sarah Price, Ruth Reid, Anna Schmidt and Emma Schwartz are exempt from nomination as we've already read one of their books this year, although we may make exceptions for novella collections that include one of these authors. If you're not sure if your book is eligible for nomination, please leave a comment and one of the moderators will get back to you!

Rules:
1. Any Amish-themed novel is eligible.
2. One nomination per person.
3. If two people nominate the same book, each person's vote counts. So the book will feature twice in the list to give each vote an equal chance.
4. Nominations run until the 14th of the month, with the winner announced on the 15th.
5. The winning book is chosen using Random.org to make it completely fair.
6. Please don't nominate a book we have already read. You can see our list of previous group reads here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... or look at the group read's bookshelf here: https://www.goodreads.com/group/books... (it includes the Christian group read as well).
7. Only nominate the first book in a series UNLESS we have already read #1 (see above link). In this case, #2 is then eligible for nomination!

Nominate away!!

#1 - The Christmas Remedy by Cindy Woodsmall -- Natalie
#2 - The Lopsided Christmas Cake (Lopsided Christmas Cake #1) by Wanda E. Brunstetter -- Amanda
#3 - The Amish Christmas Letters by Patricia Davids, Sarah Price, Jennifer Beckstrand -- Barbara

Carolyn | 0 comments I will have to check into this over the July 4th holiday; as we are camping; fun seeing the suggestions that will show up. I like that suggestion, Natalie

Carolyn | 0 comments my nomination is Naomi's Christmas (Pleasant Valley, #7) by Marta Perry , though I would vote for all of them if I could. I believe they are stand alone books in this series; so don't know if I get to use it or not

I'm double checking Carolyn and will get back soon.

I checked with Marta Perry about her Pleasant Valley series and this is her response:

Each story stands alone in the sense of being a complete story, But if you enjoy seeing the other characters in the Pleasant Valley community grow and change, you'd probably like to read them in order.

That is also the reason I didn't nominate Huckleberry Christmas by Jennifer Beckstrand -- it's book #3 in its series. So with rule #7 in mind, I think it might be best if you pick something else to nominate Carolyn.

Jennifer's stories stand alone.

Carolyn | 0 comments A lot of amish reads are series, unfortunately; and this Pleasant Valley series I chose for nomination, has too many in the series to read for me, if needing to read all.
so, I have a book in mind for fall; so, I will wait until next months nomination to try that; because I don't have any amish christmas reads on my shelf that haven't been done already.

Thanks for the nomination Natalie!

LauraP | 7 comments Just wondering why a Christmas-themed book is chosen for August. How about something dealing with the nice warm weather, vacation, that short of thing?

I'd rather read something for Christmas in November, or December.

Amanda Low | 23 comments Laura, there was a voting thread about having “Christmas in August”. Many of us thought it was a great idea. I think it’s great since we only get to read a couple Christmas books each year.

Carolyn | 0 comments LauraP, I'm doing seasonal read for september nomination; so, join me in doing so also.. I'm able to find this August read on discount second hand; as library didn't have it

message 16: by LauraP (new)

LauraP | 7 comments That's OK. Ifound the book in the library and the snowy Christmas will ne a welcoming "cool" read. I didn't see the voting for this. I'll change that.
