Elaine | 2 comments In the 60's, as a young girl, had a compilation of scary stories. One story was called It, and was about a creature that formed from bones in the bottom of a stream. The bones were from a bad guy and the creature formed around his bones from the muck and debris at the bottom of the stream (pond, lake). The creature rose up and proceeded to wreak the expected havoc.

Ayshe | 4721 comments "It" by Theodore Sturgeon? According to Wikipedia: The story deals with a plant monster that is ultimately revealed to have formed around a human skeleton, specifically that of Roger Kirk, in a swamp.

Elaine | 2 comments THAT'S IT! Thank you so much. It's driven me crazy for years trying to remember who wrote that story. Scared the crap out of me so I've never forgotten it.
