ABANDONED. I came across an older book when I was younger. It was a blue hard cover book. I'm not sure if there was a dust jacket or not. It had been in a trailer that caught on fire

What I remember of the book is there was a small boy who was left in a car with his brother or sister by their parents. And the car caught fire. I believe it was in a field or near a river with a bridge. The little boy survived but wore one of the safety helmets that kind of look like a wrestlers the have an open part on the top. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't quite know why I was so attached to this book but I read it over and over and my mom cannot seem to remember what it was either.

How long ago did you read it? What do you mean by 'older'? Did the parents deliberately try to kill the children, or was it an accident? Was it a book for teens or adults? Was the boy who survived the main character? Was the story from his point of view?

Quite awhile ago. And it was definitely for adults. And I believe it was an accident. And by older i mean it was probably written when my great grandmother was hitting adulthood. She's going to be 78 soon
