Ana (anaslair) | 6 comments I am new to this group and to being a librarian. I will try my best to update GR with new books and keep the information organized.

So far I have found some books that, for instance, don't have a picture available or the information is incomplete. Here's an example:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9...

I would like to add a picture and to edit the language which is english, not croatian, but when I try I get the error that my permissions can only edit metadata. I don't know what that is but I thought I read somewhere, probably the librarian manual, that we could edit information if the book had under 5 reviews? Which this one does. Maybe I am mixing different things.

Sorry if I am posting this in the wrong place, still feeling my way around everything!

Z-squared | 8575 comments Hi Ana, welcome to the group.

Please be aware that joining this discussion group does not automatically make you a librarian. You need to apply and be granted that status by Goodreads employees. Here is the link for librarian applications:

https://www.goodreads.com/about/apply...

In the meantime, feel free to continue to post to this group whenever you find a book that needs work. For the one you linked to, I'll go grab the cover from Amazon and make sure the language is changed.

Ana (anaslair) | 6 comments I did apply. Even though I did not get a confirmation, I can see I am ranked as a librarian in my profile, so I assumed I was given the permissions?

Edit: I did not have that rank before I applied, nor a day later, so I assumed my status had already been changed.

Z-squared | 8575 comments Nope. You'll get a notification if/when you're approved. Users can get ranked as librarians by adding books to the database. You do not need to be a librarian to add books, but you do need to be one to edit them.

Ana (anaslair) | 6 comments Hmm thank you for clearing it up. It's a bit confusing though, as I have been adding books for at least a week now and only got the librarian rank a day after I submitted the application. I didn't even submit anything new between before applying and getting the rank, so it's not a matter of not qualifying for the minimum rank, as far as I can tell... Oh well.

Thank you very much for your help!

Z-squared | 8575 comments You would have become ranked whether or not you applied to be a librarian. In the last week, you've added enough books to the database to rank you as a more active librarian than anyone else in Portugal. But your activity has nothing to do with your librarian application, or vice versa. Any user can add books to the database (or at least any user who has been on Goodreads for more than a day, or something like that).

Elizabeth (Alaska) You will get a librarian ranking when you add books, but that does not give you librarian status.

Please post your Croatian description and a link to the book and someone will be happy to update it for you. You can ask for this type of information in the Book Issues folder.

Z-squared | 8575 comments that book has already been edited (by me)

I didn't look to see all of the editions are English editions. Of course, description changes would be done only to editions to match the edition language.

Z-squared | 8575 comments they're actually all in english. the problem was the record had incorrectly been entered as croatian. no description required.
