Hi everyone - So far, people seem to be into the idea of a group read of a new story, preferably one available online for free.
Suggestions/links?
I'll put all the suggestions into a poll Monday night and collect them here for now:
1) Jo Walton - Sleeper - http://www.tor.com/stories/2014/08/sl...

2) John Chu - A Cost-Benefit Analysis of the Proposed Trade-Offs for the Overhaul of the Barricade - http://www.tor.com/stories/2014/07/a-...

3) Tananarive Due - Herd Immunity - http://www.lightspeedmagazine.com/fic...

4) James Patrick Kelly - The Rose Witch - http://clarkesworldmagazine.com/kelly...

5) Headache by Julio Cortazar - http://www.tor.com/stories/2014/09/he...

6)The Devil in America by Kai Ashante Wilson
http://www.tor.com/stories/2014/04/th...

7)Never the Same by Polenth Blake
http://strangehorizons.com/2014/20140...

8)Prayers of Forges and Furnaces by Aliette de Bodard
http://www.lightspeedmagazine.com/fic...
(ok, a reprint, but this is the first time it's available online)

Jill Carroll (carrolljill) Maybe the new Jo Walton from tor.com?

Or the latest John Chu, also from tor.com?

Thanks, Jill! I'll add them to the first post. Good choices, both.

I'll add Herd Immunity from Tananarive Due in Lightspeed: http://www.lightspeedmagazine.com/fic...

and
The Rose Witch from James Patrick Kelly in Clarkesworld:
http://clarkesworldmagazine.com/kelly...

One or two more suggestions, anyone? Then I'll turn them into a poll.

Bogi Takács | 21 comments What is the maximum length? (So would novelettes qualify?)

I think novelettes are reasonable. I'll compile these into a poll this weekend.

Bogi Takács | 21 comments Then I'd like to propose a few recent stories I've been meaning to read:

* The Devil in America by Kai Ashante Wilson
http://www.tor.com/stories/2014/04/th...

* Never the Same by Polenth Blake
http://strangehorizons.com/2014/20140...

* Prayers of Forges and Furnaces by Aliette de Bodard
http://www.lightspeedmagazine.com/fic...
(ok, a reprint, but this is the first time it's available online)

Asher Fox "The Devil in America" is absolutely one of the best stories I've read in the past decade. Just phenomenal.

Yes! That one's wonderful, one of his best this year, I think.

My apologies for not putting this together faster. I've been having a tough few weeks. If anyone else wants to be in charge of putting together a poll, I can mod you up.
