"Red" is the main characters name(or nickname). She is an ugly duckling, tall & skinny. The kids always made fun of her at school. her home life was abusive. She was from the wrong side of the tracks. One day she was gang-raped & beaten (or maybe just attacked?). Her father calls her a slut etc. She runs away from her small town to LA I believe. She is discovered as a real beauty, starts doing photo shoots etc etc. She makes it as a top-notch model, a very sought after high paid model.
I read the book probably in 90's sometime, not quit sure when it was written. Though the setting could have been 80's 90's maybe 70's.
