Steven Ramirez (bystevenramirez) | 55 comments Folks, I need to update my book cover. Can someone help? Thank you so much.

Z-squared | 8575 comments Hi Steven,

Goodreads policy is to keep all published covers because users like to shelve the edition that matches the one they own. Instead, we create alternate cover editions (ACEs), and you as the author have the ability to set the new cover as the default edition.

I have created ACEs for your book here:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... (kindle)
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... (nook ebook)
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... (ebook)

To set any of these as the default, follow the instructions here:

https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/3...

Also, I created a series page for you here:

https://www.goodreads.com/series/1361...

and added your upcoming book 2 in that series here:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

Your blog didn't mention a pub date, so I just set it to 2015 for now. You can change it to whatever you'd like, of course, but I just wanted to put something there to make it clear it hadn't been published yet.

Steven Ramirez (bystevenramirez) | 55 comments Thank you—this is awesome! And thanks for being proactive about Book 2, which is coming out shortly. The only other thing I’d like to update is the series name—I cannot see where to do that. I am branding it THE DEAD SERIES (all caps) everywhere in social media.

We use standardized formatting on Goodreads, so not all caps.

Steven Ramirez (bystevenramirez) | 55 comments Rivka, I tried restoring the original publish date, but now it's back to September 2014. Also, I noticed that the ISBNs are missing for the B&N and eBook editions. What's the best way to indicate those? I seem to remember that for Kindle, it was best to use the ASIN instead. Thank you.

Z-squared | 8575 comments Publication date is edition-specific. For the ACEs, the publication date should be set to September 2014 (or whenever you published the new cover). Only the original editions should keep August 25th 2013. There is a separate 'original publication date' field, which is currently set to August 25th 2013.

As for ISBNs/ASINs, Goodreads database does not allow more than one record to share the same ISBN or ASIN. Consequently, when a book is reissued with the same ISBN or ASIN but a new cover, the resulting ACE is created with no ISBN or ASIN in those fields. Instead, we put the ISBN or ASIN into the book description field (where it currently is now). Also, it is Goodreads policy that the first record on Goodreads created with an ISBN or ASIN keeps that number, so we cannot move it to other editions.
