This is an old book my mother in law read to my husband as a boy (he’s 40now) so at least 35years ago and it was an old book then too. The story line talks about an older woman living in a house and every morning she would put the kettle on, her putting the kettle on and it whistling would signal other people in the house to begin their day and duties etc. and one day someone noticed they didn’t hear the kettle (this is about as far as I got with my mom in law) but basically it was a trailing effect of her morning kettle whistle triggered other people to do what they needed etc. if you can help me figure out the title we’d be super grateful!
