ABANDONED. I thought it was an Agatha Christie but I must be wrong...

Hi all,

Am currently thinking of a book I read back in the late 1990s. I thought it was an Agatha Christie's but she writes murders and I can't remember if a murder occurred in the book.

I remember the book started out with a girl waking up in the early mornings, getting changed, turned and saw her brother watching her (they shared a room?). When caught, he went back to sleep. Something happens in the story... and when the girl grew up, she ended up pregnant and was sent (forced?) to live with some older woman who basically used her as a maid. There was already another woman there... and at first the girl thought it was strange that the other woman said she didn't know the date, only that it wasn't a Sunday because there was no church/sermon.

The girl was rescued by her brother in the end, and discovered that she was adopted, and that her brother had secretly loved her all this time. I can't remember what happened to her baby.

Does anyone know what this book is?
