ABANDONED. Young fiction book about a boy who goes on a quest with a group up a mountain to hunt a dragon at the summit

The description may be vague as it is a while since I read it, sorry. Our class read it when I was in the 7th grade (2011).

WARNING- SPOILERS

All I remember is that there was a boy who lived in a village that had a big mountain behind it. Something happens in the story so the boy goes on a quest up the mountain with a group of others. One by one the group gets smaller as people find reasons to go back/retreat. For example I think in one part the group must go past a spider or web or something, so one of them goes back out of fear.

Towards the end he makes it to the top where the dragon is, and I think he must fight it.

Sorry if some of the information is off as I am just going by what I'm pretty sure was in the story line.
