I don't feel like doing two truths and a lie right now, so I'm gonna give you a true or false question:
True or False: Apollo was the Greek sun-god
True or False: Apollo was the Greek sun-god
Apollo was both. The Romans couldn't find any of their gods who was as amazing as him to combine him with, so they just brought him over intact.
Actually, he was a Greek and Roman god, but he was not the sun god. It's a common misconception, but he was actually the god of light. Helios (the same as the Roman Sol) was the sun-god.
No ... you're oversimplifying things Lena. Apollo WAS the god of the sun (counterpart to his twin sister, Artemis/Diana, who was the goddess of the moon), but so was Sol/Helios. It depended on what part of Greece you were in. Greece was made of multiple city-states, each with a slightly different view of the gods. There was also a second moon goddess named Selene (spelling may be a bit off ... and I don't know the name of her counterpart). Rome absorbed the gods and goddesses from all of the people they conquered which created inconsistencies. In fact many of the major gods/goddesses shared a responsibility with a minor god/goddess.

Thanks for correcting me! I read so many different books on mythology, and most of them were contradictory!! Then, of course, the Romans further complicated things by giving them all different names, etc. But wasn't Artemis goddes of the hunt?
It's great to meet someone else who's interested in Greek mythology! :)

Yes, she was. Most of the Major gods/goddesses had multiple realms of controls (hence why they needed the minor to help them out). She was also the goddess of midwifery (despite being a sworn virgin). I did a pretty in-depth research on Greek mythology a few years ago. Partially for school (because it was assigned) and partially because mythology just fascinates me.
