Jay Catsby (jay_catsby) | 10 comments Jane, so glad to hear from you! I think I love VC Andrews so much because she never fails to keep me reading. In today's fast-paced world of multitasking I have found it difficult in recent years to sit down and focus on one book for an extended period of time. If a book doesn't catch my attention, I find it all too easy to toss aside and look for something new. Andrews' books, and other psychological thrillers, I have found to be real page-turners for me because I love to read, but have some difficulty doing so sometimes. Her infusion of raw emotion, horror, and the macabre is fascinating and unpredictable. Thank you so much for the feedback on "The Girl on the Train," I have yet to see the movie but I plan to as soon as I finish the book!

Janet | 46 comments Hi Jay., Sorry for the slow response. I am still learning to navigate my way around the Group Section of Good Reads. Like you I love to read and grab every chance I get to read. I lead a very busy life so reading is my form of relaxation. I am a little similar to you, the books I read have to draw a deep intrigue or I lose interest. I differ from you in that once I start a book I make myself finish it, just in case the book improves, however it takes me forever to reach the end of that book. I wish that I could just abandon a bad book. The key is to choose wisely when selecting books to read. I base a lot of the books I choose to read on the reviews of others.

I want to see the Movie The Girl on the Train too. You will no doubt see it before me. Let me know what you think. I usually find that when a book is turned into a movie it is disappointing because the movie does not contain all the depth of information contained in a book. Perhaps The Girl on the Train will be different!

Jay Catsby (jay_catsby) | 10 comments Thanks so much for the response! It's so funny because I wish that I could make myself finish a book like you do haha. I will definitely let you know about the movie!

message 54: by Janet (new)

Janet | 46 comments No it's a bad thing really because I waste time reading a book that I usually don't enjoy when I could have been reading something much better. I need to break this habit quickly.

Janet | 46 comments Currently rereading My Sweet Audrina to refresh my memory before I pick up Whitefern. I am three quarters of the way through this story which is so hard to put down. Even though I have read this book before, it was so long ago, I can't recall what occurred. V.C. Andrews writing is unique and no one can imitate her. I can clearly see the difference between her writing and the ghost writer, particularly since I have just read The Christopher Diaries. I am not saying that his writing is bad. It just isn't up to the standard of V.C. Andrews.

Janet | 46 comments Did you enjoy this book. I will eventually read it as I am fixated on V.C. Andrews books at the moment. I am currently reading Secret Brother but I am not a long way into the book yet. I have Whitefern lined up to read next after reading My Sweet Audrina which I really enjoyed. The mystery of the first Audrina and the numerous other mysteries in My Sweet Audrina had me wanting to reach the end of the book to discover if my suspicions were correct.

I just started "Moon Magic" (Clearwater Witches, book 4) by: Madeline Freeman

I like the other books in the series and hope this one is just as good. It is Young Adult based, but I've been enjoying the characters.

Tyra | 5 comments I love that y'all are reading, & re-reading VC Andrews books. I am currently reading her book, Wildflowers. I also re-read My Sweet Austin's, before reading Whitefern! I have her entire collection! I even have a few duplicates that I need to get rid of. I love her collection!

message 59: by Janet (new)

Janet | 46 comments I am really enjoying reading and rereading VC Andrews books. They are so gripping and difficult to put down. I am a little way into Secret Brother. So far nothing exciting has happened. Hopefully the plot improves as I get further into the story. I have got Whitefern lined up next to read and am looking forward to it. I loved My Sweet Audrina. It was so bizarre and chilling.

It is great that a few of us are reading VC Andrews books and can share our thoughts.

Jay Catsby (jay_catsby) | 10 comments Hello there Andrews fans! My apologies for my recent inactivity, life has been quite busy. I recently finished reading the Girl on the Train and watched the movie, which unfortunately was very disappointing. I am looking to begin reading either the Mirror Sisters or Whitefern very soon.

message 61: by Janet (new)

Janet | 46 comments Hi Jay, The Girl On The Train was a good read. I couldn't put the book down. When I saw the DVD in the store I purchased it expecting it to be as good as the book, however, it was a let down. I am now half way through Secret Brother and so far the book is disappointing. The story is told by a sixteen year old named Clara Sue. The book revolves around her and her feelings towards Cory. Hopefully it will improve as I read on. I simply want to reach the end of the book so I can read Whitefern. I anticipate that it will be a good read if it is anything like My Sweet Audrina.

message 62: by Jay Catsby (new)

Jay Catsby (jay_catsby) | 10 comments I found that while I purchased Whitefern soon after finishing My Sweet Audrina, I was unable to read it immediately. I am still in the process of allowing the horror of MSA to sink in and pass so that I can enjoy Whitefern as a novel in and of itself. I have not yet read Secret Brother, but would love to very soon!

message 63: by Janet (new)

Janet | 46 comments Hi Jay, I totally agree with you about "My Sweet Audrina". The events in this story are so bizarre and stay with the reader for so long. The ending of the story left itself open for a sequel. I wonder can Whitefern be as intriguing and compelling as "My Sweet Audrina". I must say "Secret Brother" is not in the same league as "My Sweet Audrina". I am moving through the story slowly as there is nothing gripping happening so far drawing me to this book when time allows.

message 64: by Janet (new)

Janet | 46 comments I am halfway through Whitefern. I can't put the book down. So good. Just like my Sweet Audrina. So much better than the Christopher Series and Secret Brother which I read at a steady pace. This book I can't turn the pages fast enough.

message 66: by Tyra (new)

Tyra | 5 comments My sweet Audrina & Whitefern were great books!! I read MSA when I was younger. When I heard that Whitefern was being released, I re-read MSA, so I could read Whitefern immediately after it! Both novels get 5*s.

message 67: by Janet (new)

Janet | 46 comments I did exactly the same thing. I read MSA as a young girl. I had to reread it to refresh my memory before reading Whitefern. I loved both books. There was just so much to absorb in both books that kept me reading on until I got to the end of the books.

I am now rereading Heaven. Another V.C. Andrews books that I read many years ago when I was much younger. I have completely forgotten what happened in this book. So far I am really enjoying the story. It has all the depth to it that other V.C. Andrews books have. I just need more spare time to get through it faster.

message 68: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (neewollah) | 4 comments i am currently reading secret brother The Christopher diary's. I had to stop it because another book I sent for came in called secrets shadows. I had to read that one cause i had just got done reading secrets in the attic. they are both V.C. Andrews book. I don't know who i felt more sorry for in the secrets series. Zippoarah for covering for her friend and feeling troubled by it, or Alice or karen cause your wondering thur out the series weather her step father did do what he did to her and that's what lead to the events that unfold. now that i have read those two I am back to picking up Secret brother.

message 69: by Vir (new)

Vir I am currently reading Down the Rabbit Hole, by Holly Madison.
I watched The Girls Next Door when it was on tv in 2006, i think it was, and quite liked it. My sister recommended the book and i haven't been able to put it down.
The playboy mansion and the world surrounding it has always intrigued me. The life, the crazy parties, and especially the celebrities attached to it. Hugh Heffner, the editor and cheif of the magazine is painted in a terrible light in the book, which i find to be very believable.
I'm not entirely sure how much of this book is true and how much is embellished. But I now want to read the book written by the other 'girlfriend', Kendra, and compare notes so to speak.

Vir Tyra wrote: "My sweet Audrina & Whitefern were great books!! I read MSA when I was younger. When I heard that Whitefern was being released, I re-read MSA, so I could read Whitefern immediately after it! Both no..."

I now must read Whitefern! I have been living in a bubble. I had no idea they made a sequel! 😲 And it's as good as My Sweet Audrina?! That is my most favourite book by VC Andrews!

message 71: by Janet (new)

Janet | 46 comments Just finished reading Dark Angel. It was a good read with plenty of drama throughout the novel. I was not as compelled to get to the end of the story like I was with the first two books in the series. Although a good read, it just lacked the V.C. Andrews touch. She has a way of writing that just cannot be imitated in my eyes. Still I have to read Gates of Paradise because I am curious to find out whether Heaven has a happy life in the future.

message 72: by Janet (new)

Janet | 46 comments Just started reading Ruby. This is the first time reading this series. I have seen so many people recommend this series and claim that it is their favourite series. I am thoroughly enjoying it so far. I love the character Ruby so far and I would love to have had a grandmere like grandmere Catherine. I am not far into the book yet can't wait to delve further into it.

message 73: by Leanne (new)

Leanne (reading_with_leanne) | 3 comments I am reading Beneath the Attic, another prequel to Flowers in the Attic. I am over 3 quarters of the way through and I am really enjoying it. I am looking forward to the next instalment Out of the Attic, and to finding out how the Foxworths became the way they did.

message 74: by Janet (new)

Janet | 46 comments I actually did not know that Beneath the Attic existed. I must get a copy of it. I loved the The Flowers in the Attic Series and thought that I had exhausted all the books in that series. As soon as I became aware of the Christopher’s Diary novels I had to read them because I wanted an insight into the lives of the children through Christopher’s eyes. This series didn’t meet my expectations. I hoped for more new information than was provided but I couldn’t not read these books when there was the possibility of learning more about the children through Christopher’s diary writing. Glad that you are enjoying Beneath the Attic. I will definitely put this book on my to read list.

message 75: by Leanne (new)

Leanne (reading_with_leanne) | 3 comments Janet, it's a new trilogy prequel for Flowers. This is the first one, and two more will follow. They are about Garland Foxworth and his wife Corrine.
I know what you mean about Christopher's Diaries, there was something missing from them. I liked the final one (I think it was the final one), and thought that was such a twist with Cory.

message 76: by Janet (new)

Janet | 46 comments Thanks Leanne. I am even more motivated to read this new trilogy with your positive response to Beneath the Attic. I can never get enough of the Foxworth’s/Dollanganger’s. The more I can learn about why these people found themselves in the circumstances that they did the better.

message 77: by Karen (new)

Karen (kare76) | 4 comments I am currently reading the final Dawn series book Darkest Hour which goes back to Lillian's beginnings. I'm having a more difficult time getting through this one though. I'm also rereading Heaven on an ereader because it has always been my favorite.

Jody | 85 comments Mod
That was the first book I ever read at 12 that got me into VC Andrews, it might be my favorite, even over Heaven.

message 79: by Arianna (new)

Arianna Vargas | 21 comments I've read all but a few of the new ones. I have the Silhouette Girl on my shelf, but I'm hesitating given how disappointing all the other recent books have been. I also have the new books about Malcolm's mother on my Christmas list. Holding out on buying them with my own money lol
