I don't think authors can. If you post a link to the quote here you want gone, a librarian may be able to take care of it for you.

However, please note that valid quotes with likes will not be deleted. (Typos can be edited, though.)

Steven Kratz | 2 comments Okay.

Can an author edit a quote?

No, but if you link to the quote needing edits and let us know what needs changing, one of our wonderful volunteer Goodreads Librarians will take care of that for you.

Rechalena (srazlesh) | 7 comments May I know the reason for which you carry such a huge responsibility concerning quotes?

Thousands of quotes and more and more..

Why can't the one who posted a quote with a mistake edit/delete it peacefully quickly without any fuss or cares?

I wish I could know!

It's probably the same reason as why not just everybody can edit the millions of books in the database.

Rechalena (srazlesh) | 7 comments Which is?
I think verified authors should have an access to edit their books in the database..
I wish if you could tell me more about the perspectives which Goodreads adopt..

And thank you! :)

lethe | 16359 comments In the past, everybody could edit books and Goodreads found that a lot went wrong. Edits not according to policy, etc. So they decided to install so-called librarians, who would be responsible for the editing.

Goodreads Authors have limited editing rights to their own books. It is a sad fact that people with a commercial interest in certain books can often not be trusted with full editing rights. They will f.e. replace covers instead of adding a new edition, or delete no-longer-published books from the database.

Rechalena (srazlesh) | 7 comments The best thing about "Librarians" here is that we get to contact them from time to time.. They are so nice and it's pleasure to have them caring about what you post and what you need.. And they do it effectively well and, thank God, not taking too long.

I just didn't like the idea of disturbing them every now and then for something that may seem to some people as a trifle. Besides, not having the feature of deleting or editing a quote I post or a book I add made me anxious that I revise it many and many times, but that was not enough, though.. As mistakes being made, for my sorrow, are inevitable.

And you made me notice the idea of having something called "Reference" in the book world which Goodreads offers. In other words, you are our reference that organizes the whole process, protecting author's rights.. Searching and searching to have Goodreads database just.. TRUSTED!

I got the point..

Thank you so much, Ms. Lethe, for making it clearer to me, I appreciate that a lot! :)
