Joanne It feels like we tend to get more points when we have longer words. The BOM This is How it Always Is which starts next week should work for LGBT since I believe it's about a Trans girl. I'll be reading that for sure.

message 402: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments This is a tough genre for me, although I did find some series last time that worked so I can so it if we need to. I'd prefer a respin, but watch, we'd get memoir or something. I'll go with whatever.

message 403: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Oh good point Joanne - I'm reading that one too I think (I have it on hold at the library at least).

message 404: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments or we can end up with a word like TWIX + some new genre (like some other team did). I definitely prefer LGBT to Memoir! :)

message 405: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments did they add new words and genres? i don't remember seeing twix before lol

i'm okay with keeping it or respinning. like you said it's not really a bad word and we do seem to do better with longer words for some reason. i'm not sure how many lgbt books i will get in because i read a lot of them last month, although i do think i have an arc that publishes at the end of the month that i should do ...

message 406: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments It was when a Team asked for a ReSpin, but I think this thread is for the Captains' Group only, so that's why you haven' t seen it.

message 407: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments The two teams who have done respins so far got words and genres that aren't on the main list - one got TWIX with Retellings and the other got GALAXY with Aliens.

FYI, the Backroom BOM starts today and is M/M.

I'm fine keeping our word and have plenty of genre books I can read, but if you all want to respin I'm fine with that as well.

message 408: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Another team did a re-spin today and got macchiato and retellings.

message 409: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments Well.... I am willing to risk it, if all of you are! :)

message 410: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Lol I kind of like living dangerously - but sometimes I regret it :)

message 411: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments i thought that respins were only out of the regular words but i guess not. i'd rather just keep our word if there's a good chance we're gonna get a word with an x in it lol but if everyone else is good with it then go ahead and respin, just be aware that i'm about 99% sure i don't have any X books. and probably no memoirs either ;)

message 412: by Joanne (new)

Joanne If there's a chance our respin will have an X, I would vote for not respinning. I won't have any books that work for X

message 413: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments Fair enough. Don't think I have any X books either.

message 414: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments If the "x" in "Orphan X" would work as a nickname (all of the orphans were called by a letter) than I have several. But if it's a short word with an "x" we'd need a lot of those.

message 415: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments yeah i would say we just keep the word we have. i'm sure i can read a few lgbt books for the genre. is there a list of the possible words we can get on a respin or is it a secret lol

message 416: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Yet another team asked for a re-spin and got Espresso and Sports. The new word seems to be related to the original word. Since we have Cinnamon it would maybe be a different spice?

I'm fine either way - I can usually find books for just about anything

message 417: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments Another spice would be interesting. :) What to do? What to do? :)

message 418: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 10118 comments Mod
do it! you don't want all those Ns in your lives ;-P

message 419: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments Temptress BEGONE! :D

message 420: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments i will take a hundred N's over one X lol

message 421: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments ok so i assume we have all agreed to keep cinnamon for next week in fear of the dreaded X? lol is there anything we need in particular to finish out this week? it looks like we will have enough shifter books if the ones on the planning sheet get finished. i'm about to finish small spaces and then i'm not sure if i'll try to do another short one for this week or start something longer for next.

message 422: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Devann wrote: "ok so i assume we have all agreed to keep cinnamon for next week in fear of the dreaded X? lol is there anything we need in particular to finish out this week? it looks like we will have enough shi..."

Yep, we didn't come to a consensus to change this week. I'll update the spreadsheet to see where we're at. We can definitely use longer books (over 400 pages) if you have any!

message 423: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments i am definitely gonna try to do a few 400+ page ones for next week. working on paradise lost right now actually but it is slooooow going as i have to read a lot of it twice to understand it lol. probably not the best thing to read during a challenge but i have literally been trying to read it for 15 years and i was in the mood suddenly soooo i went for it

message 424: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Yay - we've completed our shifter genre books!!! As for letters needed, I think anything works (it helps if your book has more than one letter) - but we can move things around if needed.

Great Job, Green Ladies. Quite a rally in the end!

And Joanne, your book of 1014 pages is MUCH APPRECIATED! :)

We spelled-out UMBER 5 times and have the 10 genre books.

Please let Sandy and me know if you are finished for this week or if there are books you are still going to report before the deadline.

COUNTDOWN

I have created a sheet for Week 6 in our Planning Table, so you can add your books from now on.

message 427: by Joanne (new)

Joanne I'm done for the week.

message 428: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments I have two more books to check in - I finished one last night and will have the other done before the deadline - I'm sorry I've been such a slacker this week!

No problem, Suzanne. LIFE has been butting in pretty heavily. :(

I'll add Sweep of the Blade to the Team Sheet now. Sandy will handle the other: :)

message 430: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Thanks!

I have great hopes for a more normal upcoming week!

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments i'm done for the week

message 432: by Megan (new)

Megan (meganraex) | 1031 comments I'm done for the week. Bit of a rubbish one from me this week, sorry about that ladies!
I'll finish my next book over the weekend then I will read the MOD Takeover BOM next week which is LGBT plus BOM points :)

message 433: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments Sorry about your bad week, Megan. Hope the next will turn out better!! Hooray for extra BOM points next week. :)

message 434: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments I checked in my last book for the week.

message 435: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Hi everyone! Sigh... my week has gotten away from me as has today. I had two more books I was hoping to finish but it looks like they'll go on next weeks tally. Thank you for setting up the planning spreadsheet for next week @Melinda! And great job on the doorstopper, @Joanne!!!

message 436: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments I have checked us in for this week. Have a lovely weekend, ladies!

message 437: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments anyone planning on doing the floor is lava challenge after this is over? i asked a question in the question thread so i'm waiting to hear the answer before i commit lol. it helps that they lowered the page requirement to 100 pages and i do like team challenges but also i hate feeling like i'm not able to read the things i want to so i'm not sure if back to back challenges are good for me

message 438: by Joanne (new)

Joanne Devann wrote: "anyone planning on doing the floor is lava challenge after this is over? i asked a question in the question thread so i'm waiting to hear the answer before i commit lol. it helps that they lowered ..."

I pretty much always sign up for team challenges in this group but I'm considering whether or not to give this one a pass. The tasks look super specific. I was actually thinking of cutting back on my reading after this challenge to catch up on Netflix shows so I'm not sure this would work for me. Also the concept of having to come up with our own teams is stressing me out.

message 439: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments haha yeah, i'm not sure if i will sign up or not. they said that all book lengths basically count the same though as long as it meets the task requirements so i can read all those 100-200 page books i usually can't read in challenges. tempting lol but yeah making our own teams is definitely stressful

message 440: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments It looks fun, but I am going to skip that one. After Wheel is over, I will definitely need some time to do more random & much more leisurely reading. :)

message 441: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Hi ladies! I hope everyone is having a great weekend! I spent yesterday getting blood - turns out I was very anemic. I was hoping to get a bunch of reading done while I was waiting..waiting...waiting (I was at the ER from 7:30am-3:30pm) but there were so many distractions. I promise to get caught up this week though, and I'm feeling better.

I did just finish the backroom BOM, I finished another book friday night and I'm almost done with an audiobook I was listening to. Enjoy your Sunday!

message 442: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments wow that is soooo long to be waiting. glad you're feeling better though. how did you like the backroom BOM? i'm still not sure if i'm going to attempt it lol

message 443: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments I was actually in a room the whole time - they just kept drawing more blood and then having to wait for tests and blood match and typing.

I really enjoyed What Remains and would recommend it!

message 444: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments Sandy, glad you are feeling better. All that waiting sound terrible. :(

message 445: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Sandy I'm sure glad you are feeling better. You are right - lots of distractions there too. I hope you continue to do better!!

message 446: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments haha they had to draw a bunch of your blood to realize that they needed to GIVE you blood? i'm sure that sucked. but i guess at least you were in a room and didn't have to keep moving around. i might grab the sample for the backroom BOM tomorrow but i am like very not keen to actually spend money on it lol

Dear Green Ladies!

Nice work. We are close to spelling out CINNAMON a 2nd time already.

So far, we read 3 genre books.

I am currently listening to The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller so that will be a 4th one and I see from the planning sheet that we will have some more. :)

message 448: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments i'm going to finish a genre book today and might do a few more before the week is over. i feel like i'm definitely slacking this week but you guys are doing great, especially with the BOM it looks like!

message 449: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments I will have Space Opera done today, which is a genre book, and Eleanor & Park which is not. I didn't want to start on that new BOM til I finished Eleanor & Park, but seems like that'll be soon :)

message 450: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments I've finished a genre book last night and I'm on another one right now. I'll get them posted in a bit. Great reading Greenies!!!
