SandyL | 4747 comments We're doing great! We've completed another spell out and we only need 2 more genre books. We've got several people reading for the genre, so we should be good even if someone can't finish. Awesome reading ladies!!

Only 1 more genre book needed, if you still can. I finished mine. :)

Melindam | 8367 comments Suzanne / Joanne,

I have already added your BOM participation points for Daisy Jones & The Six.

Suzanne, please post your link to your DQs once you kicked them off and then we can add the extra points for that. Thanks.

We did very well again, Team Awesome!

Got all 10 genre books covered now.

Please let me and Sandy know whether you'll finish any books before the deadline or not so that we can do the check-in for Week 3 by the end.

We have some 9 hours to go.

COUNTDOWN

message 305: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments I am done for Week 3.

I will now start reading Where Eagles Dare by Alistair MacLean for Thriller / Bloody Mary (+ there are plenty of 5-point words there as well)

message 306: by Megan (new)

Megan (meganraex) | 1031 comments I'll finish one more today before the deadline then my first book for next week is The Girl in Red by Christina Henry - Thriller but sadly none of the 10 point words. Plenty of the 5 pointers though :)

message 307: by Megan (new)

Megan (meganraex) | 1031 comments Also, it's bloody typical that the book I just finished (The Princess Bride) mentions Black Widow!

No worries Megan, it will get us 20 points for the page count, 5 for the genre and 5 for a scavenger word. That's perfect! :)

message 309: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments i'm going to finish the haunting of hill house today and then i'll move onto book from next week. it works for classics genre so if anyone else wants to put off their genre book til after the deadline they can

message 310: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Well done everyone! I finished Daisy Jones and the Six last night - I'll do the completion post shortly. Thanks for already linking the DQ answers, Melindam! I'll link my list of questions also - I'll do those before the deadline too so you don't have any spreadsheet lock issues.

I'm done with reading for the week. I'll start on something for next week.

Haha and Megan - totally typical Black Widow is mentioned in Princess Bride.

message 311: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments Thank you Devann, Suzanne. :)

SandyL | 4747 comments Megan wrote: "Also, it's bloody typical that the book I just finished (The Princess Bride) mentions Black Widow!"

I know Megan! I read Helter Skelterk (about the Manson family) not long ago!

message 313: by Joanne (new)

Joanne I'm done for this week and will start next weeks books today.

message 314: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments unfortunately except for the how to survive a horror movie book i don't think i will be much help with genre this week. i've got two arcs i have to do and a non fiction that works for 3 letters so i want to get that in - it's so hard to read non fiction during wheel and tower teams - and then the other book i am doing for a tricky word also doesn't have it. i might be able to squeeze one in towards the end of the week if we need it but we'll see what happens

message 315: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments No problem Devann!

message 316: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments i actually just rechecked and one of my ARCs does have it so that's good. i somehow thought our genre was suspense instead of thriller for a few days there, i must have been out of it lol

message 317: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Hey Suzanne
Did we ever figure out who is doing Charles Manson or Black Widow?

message 318: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments I'm trying to get reading done, but I've been stuck to the TV too much watching earthquake coverage. There was another bigger one on Friday night - again, we're too far away for damage but could still feel it pretty strongly.

message 319: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments I am sorry 2 hear about the earthquake, but glad you are well, Sandy.

message 320: by Megan (new)

Megan (meganraex) | 1031 comments Glad to hear you're safe Sandy!

Haven't done a lot of reading this weekend. Working all day Saturday then and all-day dance show rehearsal today, so now I'm knackered!

message 321: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments I have read my 3 short books withthe special words, just don't have time to do the update. I will do that tomorrow.

message 322: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments SandyL wrote: "Hey Suzanne

Nope - which book would you rather do? I don't have a preference either way there's a book I'd like. And I'd totally be stuck on the earthquake coverage too!! When we were biking in Kansas I was obsessed with tornadoes. It's amazing and humbling how powerful nature is.

message 323: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments If it's okay, I'll take Charles Manson.

Yep, there's something about those disasters that glue you to TV to find out what's going on. Last year we had the terrible wildfires nearby and it was the same thing.

message 324: by Joanne (last edited Jul 07, 2019 01:40PM) (new)

Joanne Looks like we're in need of books that work for I, so I'm going to pick up a short one.

As we start deciding which book we will use for each word, can we get some crossed off or made clear that it's "covered"? It's a bit exhausting to search each book for all 71 words and it would be nice to search for a shorter list. Just an idea.

That sounds perfect Sandy - thanks! I'll do Black Widow. And wow yes I remember those wildfires!

message 326: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Captains - for black widow I have either:

Renegades "his entire body morphing into millions of black widow spiders"

or

Gift From the Comfort Food Cafe "you'd make a great Black Widow, but heroes come in different forms don't they?"

I think either would work but wanted to double check with you. "Gift" is maybe the purist way to go, since its the actual character, but Renegades is worth 10 more points (longer book). Apparently decisions are hard! :)

message 327: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments It doesn't matter @Suzanne, so read the one you think you'll enjoy most.

message 328: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Thanks! I'll see which I'm in the mood for after my current book. I soooo love that there are so many enjoyable books out there. I'll never finish them all, but I'm sure trying :)

Thanks for looking for I's @Joanne!
So far there are only a couple of books posted that are using the Standard Words - we'll mark them off as we use them on the Wk4Mini tab on the spreadsheet.

message 330: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments @Joanne - did you/are you doing the DQ's for Daisy Jones? If so, can you please add a link to your first post? Thanks!!

Joanne SandyL wrote: "@Joanne - did you/are you doing the DQ's for Daisy Jones? If so, can you please add a link to your first post? Thanks!!"

Sure. I didn't post earlier because I thought it was mentioned earlier in the thread that my comments were entered in the spreadsheet last week.

Here is day one: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

We are off to a great start again, Lovely Greenies!

We have already covered 6 genre books out of 10.

We spelled out BEIGE once + already have 2 incomplete ones.

It seems that we are in need of some "I"s.

message 333: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments I am going to read a book with an "I" and that won't work for the genre, but will also work for some MINI-words

message 334: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments i'm doing an audiobook now that has an I in it and am going to do another one after that. if anyone else needs some I recommendations the incryptid series by seanan mcguire is good and the mage tales and dark fae decree series by ilana waters are interesting and also fairly short as well.

We're doing great chicas!!! We only need 1 more genre book and 10 more mini words!!!

We're still short on "I's" but it looks like there are several in the works so we should be good. I hope everyone is enjoying their books!!!

message 337: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Wow that is great!

Is anyone reading "white woman"? I'm not sure what the captain's group decided about that one - I know at least on of my books has "white woman" as a phrase - like "she was an older white woman". Or I could pick up something like Tempt Me at Twilight (The Hathaways, #3) by Lisa Kleypas if that would work.

message 338: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments i'm going to finish my first i book today and then i should be able to fit 2 more in this week i hope - 1 audio and 1 arc. i's are weirdly hard to find, like you wouldn't think they were so scarce but they are

Oh good - I'm glad the phrase will work - it is in an 800 page book that I'd love to finish this week. If only it were 801 pages....boo!

message 342: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Sigh - that pesky 1 page!!! Still lots of points Suzanne - thanks!

Melindam | 8367 comments Hi Devann,

could you give us page numbers/sentences for cliff-hanger / gore / jason?

Thanks

message 344: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments description

Ladies, we need 1 more I + 1 more G to have 4 completed BEIGE words.

1 more genre book would come in handy as well. :)

+ 8 more words for the mini.

message 345: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments cliff-hanger - pg 198 - A street band called Pookiesnackenburger and a comedy sketch group called Cliffhanger performed huge and highly popular street shows at the Edinburgh Fringe every day at one p.m.

gore - pg 199 - Together we went on to set up the Official Touring Company of Alpha Centauri, performing comedy shows with two other students: Helen Caldwell and Neil Gore—including a very low-budget version of Ben-Hur,

jason - pg 364 - Jason Booher mentioned in acknowledgements

message 346: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments Devann, I can check these with the Mods.Chances are, the won't be accepted in their current form.

message 347: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments Maybe we'll need to use another word from your book.

message 348: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments ok that's fine. is it because they are like a name of a group and then someone's name? because i thought that as long as it was in the book it was fair to use.

message 349: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments with Jason, it's the acknowledgements part I am not sure about. And also Gore used as a name may be tricky.

message 350: by SandyL (new)
