Megan (meganraex) | 1031 comments Oh gosh yes, Sam Vimes must be one of the greatest characters in all of literature. I love him!

SandyL | 4747 comments Good afternoon beautiful green girls!

We're checked in for Week 1. Our next round starts in about 20 minutes or so, so make sure not to finish any new books before then! Happy reading!

message 159: by Melindam (last edited Jun 22, 2019 01:26AM) (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments I will try and read longer books this week. Plus, I will start on The Wayward Children series for the LGBT genre points. Let's see how this week works out for me/us.

I have a promisingly peaceful w/e without kid & hubbie, so I am planning to finish a 704-pager by Sunday evening. :)

You know, I always pictured the divine Alan Rickman (R.I.P) playing him to perfection. :) Maybe Clint Eastwood would have done nicely as well. :)

SandyL | 4747 comments Enjoy your quiet weekend @Melinda!

Does anyone else have any fun plans? Alas, mine is again a quiet one with my pups. I have been dog and cat sitting for my sister the last few days, so I've had a puggle and a cat who need meds several times a day visiting. My cat is not happy! My pups are okay with it, though. My brother is going to paint my bedroom next week, so I'll need to get all the stuff out of the closet this weekend. Other than that, just reading!

message 162: by Joanne (new)

Joanne No plans, which I'm very excited about. Just get to read and catch up on Netflix all weekend.

Ooh you know I never would have thought of Alan Rickman to play Sam Vimes but I can totally see that!
I think someone like Jerome Flynn (Bronn in Game of Thrones) could make a good Sam.

Megan (meganraex) | 1031 comments I had a stall today at a local fun day/festival so now totally knackered! Going to lunch tomorrow for my Grandad's 80th birthday but I'm hoping to squeeze in some decent reading time in between!

message 166: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments i'm going to try to pull myself out of my weird reading slump but also i have the strongest urge to rewatch old [relatively speaking] doctor who episodes ...although not tonight i guess since i found out earlier this week that my roommate hates david tennant [howw???] but he works tomorrow so maybe i will watch some doctor who then lol

Suzanne | 5417 comments I'm back - got some reading done and will report it - was just finishing the daily questions - since I didn't have computer access.

So question about Perfect Formation: I read the book, answered the daily questions, etc. BUT I'd really rather not put it on my Goodreads shelves since people like my dad and sister are some of my goodreads friends. They already think I read extreme stuff, but this one is kind of embarassing.

However, I'll add it to my shelves/Wheel shelf if I need to in order to get the points - so just let me know!

message 168: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments Suzanne, your concern is totally understandable. :)

Here's a thought: maybe GR should introduce backroom/private shelves. :)

Personally, I don't think this should be a problem, however, I will run this by the Mods.

message 169: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Thanks! I'll certainly add it if I have to. Your idea of backroom/private shelves is brilliant!

I put your question to the Mods. Will get back with their answer.

Melindam | 8367 comments FANTASTIC READING JOB OVER THE WEEKEND, LADIES!

We have already completed CINNAMON once and only need 3 more books to complete it a second time. + we already read 5 books for the genre. Still 5 to go for maximum bonus points.

Melindam | 8367 comments I am going to read another 700+ pager Circle of Friends. This is a favourite book and comfort-read for me. i read it every year.

I have also just downloaded Red, White & Royal Blue for the genre bonus.
I am really curious about this book as it got very positive reviews from my GR friends and it will be my first LGBT romance. :)

message 173: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments I've never heard of Circle of Friends - I just looked it up. It looks interesting! I love comfort reads :)

message 174: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments I guess it's not everbody's cup of tea/mug of chocolate, but I just love it. :) There's a film adaptation as well, but I admit that I hated that.

message 175: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Was Minnie Driver in that movie? I seem to remember it vaguely!

BTW - great job everyone. And thanks for the doorstoppers, Melinda!!

I've got Red, White & Royal Blue on hold through Overdrive (online library system) and I'm hoping it comes in quickly! I forgot that it would work for this week's genre!

message 176: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments Yes, it was with Minnie Driver.
I am reading Red, white .. right now and laughing my head off. I am loving it!!! :)

Suzanne, this was the MODs' reply:

So.... we discussed this, and whilst we feel your teamie's pain, we do need them to shelve it - as soon as we make one exception we'll have a million others to consider, and that makes doing the spot checks difficult.

It is possible to make the shelving pretty discreet - untick the "show on feed" and it won't pop up on home page or newsfeeds. Plus writing a note in the review that it was for a challenge and the lolz should minimise the impact.

And of course, they can unshelve it once the challenge is over :)

message 178: by Melindam (last edited Jun 25, 2019 04:33AM) (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments Green Ladies, we managed to spell out CINNAMON twice already.

Let's rally and spell-it-out one more time! :)

Plus we now only need 3 LGBT books to get all the bonus points.

Megan (meganraex) | 1031 comments Amazing job ladies!
I started The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller yesterday (very late to the party on this one, I know) and I'm absolutely loving it so far so I should definitely finish it before this week's deadline. It's also very much LGBT :D

Awesome, Megan. Actually, I also intend to read it some time, but not this week. :)

message 181: by Melindam (last edited Jun 25, 2019 05:53AM) (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments I will definitely finish Circle of Friends by Maeve Binchy

+ I will try to finish American Queen (New Camelot Trilogy, #1) by Sierra Simone as it's also LGBT, but it's a bit uncertain.

message 182: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments just checked out the planning sheet and you all are doing amazing this week! i feel like i'm slacking more than a bit lol but i am going to try to finish lost souls today and i also started the audio of the prey of gods this morning which is pretty interesting so far. both of those have lgbt genre but we seem to be doing okay on that front anyway :)

message 183: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Hi everyone! It always feels weird that it's early for me and you've all been up for hours!!!

I finished an LGBT book yesterday and I'm working on another one right now, so between all of us it sounds like we're in good shape. And great reading everyone!! Thanks for updating the spreadsheets @Melinda!

It's always frustrating to be in a book slump Devann! I feel lost when that happens to me. Glad you found something that interests you!

LADIES

3 books to go for another CINNAMON spell-out (incl. 2 LGBT for the genre points.) and maybe another incomplete spell-it-out, if we manage.

AND

THE WHEEL HAS BEEN SPUN AGAIN!

We got the word CHOCOLATE for the genre CLASSICS.

Question is: are U happy to go with it or would you like to ask for a ReSpin? Please let us know as we need to notify Mods by Thursday 5.00 pm UK time.

On my side, I have nothing to complain about, I have plenty of classics to read if the GREEN TEAM is OK with it.

COUNTDOWN to end of Round 2 is Friday, 28 June, 10.00 PM UK time.

message 187: by Megan (new)

Megan (meganraex) | 1031 comments I don't mind either way, doesn't seem too bad of a word/genre. I've always got plenty of classics glaring at me accusingly from my shelf waiting to be read!

message 188: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments i'm okay with it. i was going to try to actually read some classics next month anyway [i agree megan, they are very accusing] so maybe i can get a few in with the genre tag and it's got a nice mix of letters. i do wish that one week would actually work for the two non-fiction books i've been wanting to read buuuuut maybe next week lol

message 189: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Great job everyone!!! I've got several books I need to post and I'll get that done today, including genre books. Maybe we'll get a 4th spell-out of our word?

I'm okay with Chocolate and Classics - the O's might be a bit tough, but you guys are doing great finding letters!!!

message 190: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Also, awesome job with the doorstoppers @Melinda!!! You rock!

message 191: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments You rule! ;)

message 192: by Joanne (new)

Joanne I'll have an O book ready to go for next week.

message 193: by Joanne (new)

Joanne Not sure if I'll have any classics.

message 194: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments i promise i am actually going to finish the 3 books i'm reading right now before the deadline lol and they've got a good spread of letters so i think we can definitely do another spell it out. also yeah you guys who are reading long books are awesome! i had a few that were close to 500 pages but unfortunately didn't quite make it over that hump.

message 195: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments These long books are my comfort-reads, I know them like good friends. :) Even tho' they are long, they are very easy reads. It would take me longer to read non-fiction books of the same length...obvs. :)

message 196: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments Joanne, don't worry. I think we can manage classics, just try to find some Os for us. ;)

message 197: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Great reading Green Goddesses!

We've spelled out our word another time and I think we'll be able to get a 4th in! Also, we've maxed out our genre books!!!

message 198: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Awesome!
I just finished my two books left on the spreadsheet. I'm not sure at this point if it would be good to finish another by the cutoff Friday or start on some longer ones for next week (I need one kindle and one audio). Let me know what you think :)

message 199: by Melindam (last edited Jun 26, 2019 11:44PM) (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments WOW, GREEN TEAM! Actually we are 3 books short of spelling out CINNAMON for the 4th time! :)

I think we can manage that without problems.

Suzanne, if you are more comfortable with & also for strategic reasons, I suggest you go with your longer books for higher points that will already count toward our next word for Week 3.

message 200: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Thanks - I'd rather go with the longer books - so that fits just fine for me :). Sigh - I have one I should read for review that is 800 pages. Why oh why can't it be 801!? /cry
