Great job muchachas!! We've almost spelled out our word 3 times so far and we only need 2 more genre books! We'll find out our next week's word and genre in a few hours - fingers crossed it's a good one!!!

The Wheel has turned again.

The colour is BROWN, our genre for next week is SPACE OPERA.

Please let us know if you are OK with it or would like a ReSpin. We have to notify the Mods about it until tomorrow, 5pm UK time.

Melindam | 8367 comments I don't mind having Space opera as our next genre. However, if the team is against it, we can ask for a ReSpin.

I could read The Star Wars Trilogy by George Lucas which would count as 1 book for the genre, but it has 705 pages, so we would get 80 + 5 points for it.

Megan (meganraex) | 1031 comments I don't mind it, I might finally read some more of the Red Rising series!

message 455: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments i am okay with it, although i will have to check to see what i have for the genre. i'm not huge on sci-fi generally and i'm not sure exactly what constitutes a 'space opera' buuuuut the respins have me afraid of those X's lol

Devann, if you're not into sci-fi, you might still enjoy The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet, which is more a road movie with aliens than hard sci-fi. There's no massive plot, it's more an exploration of character, and is lovely. There are two more in the same vein though in different settings.

message 457: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments haha i already read the long way to a small, angry planet earlier this year. i actually surprisingly liked the first two although with the third one the total lack of plot really bothered me. i feel like the second one definitely had the most structure.

Yes, I liked the timeslip, and who doesn't love a heist caper? ;-)

Suzanne | 5417 comments I have several Space Opera books I'd love to read. Ha and it is ironic that I just finished Space Opera yesterday :)

was that good? i've got it, saving it in the hope that i'll get Space Opera for the last week!

message 461: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments Cat, it was good in a very very different sort of way. It really felt like British humor to me, even though the author isn't British. Very rambling, LONG sentences, and pretty funny - butt not a ton of a plot. I had the kindle copy and the audio version - not sure which I liked better (kind of switched between them). I'll be interested to see if you like it!

message 462: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments This is the genre I was least looking forward to. I have found a couple of books I can read for it, though - and it sounds like enough of you guys have books that we can meet our 10 books for the genre points. So it looks like you are spared that pesky X yet again Devann!! 😍

message 463: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments I can also read the big volume of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy which is over 800 pages, though probably I can only read these 2 doorstoppers for week 7.

message 464: by Dev (last edited Jul 26, 2019 05:49PM) (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments for genre i have Barbary Station, The Star Host, Falcon, and The Stars Now Unclaimed] so surely i can do at least a few of those.

i also have these that are tagged space opera but not sure if it will have the right letters, might try to find a more comprehensive cast list: The Quantum Thief and Destroyer of Planets

and i don't think Soldier of Fortune: A Gideon Quinn Adventure will work because it is tagged 'sci fi space opera' and i feel like we already asked about variations before and they said no right? not sure if it would have any usable letters anyway

message 465: by Joanne (new)

Joanne I'm almost tempted to say we should re-spin, just because the short words are hard to fit books into, but I am nervous abous the possibility of an X word.

message 466: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments do we know what all the possibilities for respins are or is it a secret?

message 467: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments We don't know what they might be. Another team re-spun today and got Quassia and Zombies. :-)

message 468: by Joanne (new)

Joanne SandyL wrote: "We don't know what they might be. Another team re-spun today and got Quassia and Zombies. :-)"

eeyikes. Maybe not a re-spin then.

message 469: by Dev (last edited Jul 24, 2019 05:29PM) (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments haha yeah i feel like they saved all the weird letters for the respins. although honestly i've got a few Q books i'd like to read, but still not worth the risk imo ;)

message 470: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments I am going out of town tomorrow - Saturday, so I pushed hard to finish my books today so that I could get them checked in. I'll start reading some long books that I won't finish til next week while I'm travelling. So anyway, after this checkin of 3 I'm done for the week.

I've answered 3 days worth of the daily questions for This is How it Always Is. I'll answer the rest when I get back (since they aren't posted yet).

message 471: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments Thanks, Suzanne. Travel safely!

Suzanne | 5417 comments Thanks! I have all these words in my head now :) We will be doing a lot of hiking in beautiful country, so I'm looking forward to it!

Nice reading, Greenies!

We are into spelling out CINNAMON for the 4th time (3 more books and it's complete) & Genre Books are completed!

I have added Week 7 to our Planning Sheet, so you can start listing your books. :)

message 474: by Melindam (last edited Jul 25, 2019 01:41AM) (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments I am planning to finish 2 more books by tomorrow's deadline.

message 475: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments i'm also planning on finishing two more [one 300 page range and one 400 page range].

i've actually got a 1000+ page book that works for next week but i'm unsure if i want to attempt it because it's non fiction so if i didn't get it done this round we'd have to get either brown, beige, or walnut for week 8 for it to count for anything ...decisions decisions lol it's The Woman's Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets but i'm not sure if i can read what is essentially a 1000 page reference book in one week -_-;

message 476: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments Don't worry Devann, it would keep the week after next. ;)

message 477: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments I can't believe the week is almost over!!! I've got 2 more books I'm working on and hopefully I'll be able to squeeze in a 3rd.

message 478: by Melindam (new)

Melindam | 8367 comments Hi Greenies,

Here is the COUNTDOWN to Week 6. There is still 13 hours to go.

Please let us know when you are done for this week so Sandy or I can check the Team in. Thanx.

message 487: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Awesome reading this week girls!!

@Devan - can you make sure to mark House of Salt & Sorrows as read? Thanks!!!

I thought I could get one last book squeezed in - I'm listening to the audio but it's not going to happen, so I'll move it to our next week's books.

message 488: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments Is it not showing up as read to you? When I look at it on my shelf it says date read and has today's date on it.

message 489: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments OK thanks Devann - I think there is a glitch sometimes where that happens (we've got another one with the same thing.) thanks for checking!

message 490: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments Happy Weekend Green Babes!!! Does anyone have any fun plans? It's pretty hot here, so I'll be trying to stay cool. Nothing big on the agenda.

message 491: by Joanne (new)

Joanne Not much going on for me. I'm working in the evening both days, so just been having a relaxing morning in my backyard.

message 492: by Megan (new)

Megan (meganraex) | 1031 comments I've got a two day event with my stall. One day in and I'm already exhausted! Luckily we are in a marquee so out of the non-stop rain but I'm looking forward to a good long sleep tomorrow evening.

Megan (meganraex) | 1031 comments Ooh lovely I'm jealous! Have a wonderful holiday Melinda!

message 496: by SandyL (new)

SandyL | 4747 comments How was everybody's weekend? Did you have a successful event @Megan? I hope you're enjoying your holiday, @Melinda!

It was hot here, so just tried to stay cool. Although I did venture to the...gasp....physical library and .... double gasp.....checked out some 'real' books!! Including Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1) by Amie Kaufman for our genre. I'm not a big SciFi reader or a YA reader - I think I only pick these genres up during a challenge. But I have to say I'm really enjoying this book and I'm so glad I got the physical book - it is so cool how it's laid out with different type/fonts and all sorts of interesting graphics that I wouldn't get on my kindle. I started listening to the audio version but found it hard to keep up because of the style of book.

message 497: by Joanne (new)

Joanne I loved Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1) by Amie Kaufman but I haven't read the sequels yet. I own a paper copy of the first one so if I get my act together one day and get physical copies of the 2nd and 3rd from the store or library, I will probably read the whole series in one go. Definitely doesn't seem like a book that works well as ebook, which is how I do most of my reading.

message 498: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 5417 comments I agree that the physical copy of that book is the way to go - the layout is so cool! I really liked the series - but I DO like SciFi. I don't like YA a ton though, but this was just really involving!!

message 499: by Dev (new)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments i tried to read illuminae a few weeks ago but didn't get very far before i decided to put it down. i love kristoff's nevernight series and the first lifel1k3 book was pretty good too, but i feel like when he writes with kaufman it's too YA for me. i wish i would have been able to get through it for the page points though lol
