Also, Maximilian Hell was born on May 15, 1720, so maybe that prompt during that week!

Author's name pronunciation:

KIS - Include references to place (room, shop, house, etc.) rather than specific names

Great ideas! Just one question: would NOT including The, A, or An at the beginning of a title be a KIS or a BIO? I would think including them would make the prompt easier, and would therefore be a KIS. Not including THE, A or An would make it harder, so a BIO? Maybe I've got it twisted in my brain! lol
No, because the prompt says “does NOT include A, T, or Y” so leaving out The, A, or An would make it an easier prompt to fulfill.
For "A book with a place name in the title":BIO - a book with a title that is only the name of a place.
ex:
Manhattan Beach
Galápagos
as opposed to:
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
The Lioness of Morocco
Amy & Emily, I’m confused. Aren’t you both saying the same thing? 😂 I think the wording in your first post about it, Emily, should say the KIS option is to have the words in the title. Using “The,” “A,” or “An” in the title makes it an easier prompt - KIS.
I guess what I meant there is that if you ignore the "the", "A", or "an", then it makes the prompt easier.
For example, if I were counting the articles, I wouldn't be able to read The Golden Hour because "The" has a T in it. If I am not counting the articles, I would be able to read it because I'm not counting "The" as part of the title, and there is no A, T, or Y in the rest of the title.
My wording should have been:
- KIS: When looking at titles, ignore "The", "A", or "An" at the beginning of the title

Like some other people, I think I'm going to fit the list into a more general personal BIO challenge: the Christy 2020 20/20 challenge! It will be:-books from at least 20 different countries
-at least 20 ownvoices books
-at least 20 nonfiction books
-at least 20 books from the 1001 books to read before you die list
I don't read 80 books in a year, so it's fine if a book hits multiple categories, but it's time for me to get serious about diversifying my reading and broadening my horizons! Anybody else interested in this sort of overlay onto the challenge?
Prior year ATY Prompt:BIO- 1) select 1 (or several) specific prompts before Jan 1; 2) prompt that is different than the other 51 prompts; 3) prompt from a year you didn’t participate in the challenge; 4) randomly select a number from 1-52 and only use that prompt # from any of the years or a specific year (randomly select the year too)!
The KIS/BIO list has been updated as of Oct 26, 2019As soon as the full AtY 2020 challenge prompt order is posted, I will reorder the prompts here to match. :)
Emily wrote: "They were posted on Tuesday! Check out the 2020 Plans folder for the final list!"Well then I have a lot of work to do! lol
Well that was a lot easier than last year! The KIS/BIO list has been aligned with the 2020 AtY Challenge list. Time to start planning!I'm not sure if the mods want to pin this list to the top of the 2020 Reading Plans board as was done in 2019? I assume you can move it there from here without my having to repost it? If I do need to repost, just let me know. :-)

Christy, I’m doing something similar.
*12 books from different countries
*10 books from US states that I didn’t read in 2019 (I read about 24)
*10 books from the 1001 list
*10 ABE authors that I have not previously read.
The books can overlap the categories with the ATY challenge.
Happy Reading in 2020
Linda
Without meaning to, I chose books for the first five prompts (or the January prompts for those reading in order) that all had the letter "C" as the beginning of one of the words in their title.I might do this as a BIO option for my whole ATY list, to have a common starting letter for each "month's" prompts.
For February it's "L". For March, I haven't filled it all out yet but it's either "N", "A" or the colon ":"
My 2020 list.
I am going to challenge myself with the BIO of Alphabet (repeat for second 26 prompts) I am sort of using KIS as I will pick books that also fit prompts from my other three reading challenges (all books would fit for my 2020 GR reading challenge of 250 books read!)
Emily wrote: "That's a cool twist, Ana, and a great way to narrow down prompts for your challenge."Oh yes. Even though it's a BIO, it actually makes it easier for me to choose since too many choices makes me feel anxious. Plus it looks neat for the titles to have something in common when they're all listed together.
I'm trying to knock out books from my TBR this year, which happen to be mostly books from the 1001 list, or other similar lists. I like the idea of different countries. I might try to incorporate that too.
