I read it in the early to mid 80's. Hero had an intelligent horse, or demon horse, I remember the horse changing it's hoof shape to run up some steep ice. The hero had those spells stuck in him, fighting to get out. I think it was 7 spells, but I can't remember. I know it was more than one spell, so it isn't a rimworld story.

possibly one of the Cugel books in the dying earth series? https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...I don't remember a horse but Cugel struggles to keep I think three spells in his head at a time without them exploding out inconveniently.
Thank you, after reading the publication history I realize I read a chapter in an anthology, so the horse might be from a different story. Going to get the books, but I am 99% sure that is is dying earth, going to call it solved, thanks again.
