It's been several years since I read this series I can't remember a lot about it BUT: the "hero" is ex-military and he either creates or inherits from his father a business that's based in VA that's run by a lot of other ex-military who are hired out for jobs. His cousin runs the business for him and occasionally goes out on ops with him. It's a very close-knit group of people. On one of the ops, probably about book five or six, his cousin is killed during the mission. It's a similar vibe to Mitch Rapp and Ryan Noble but a little more "human."
