SOLVED. Operation Overlord - diary of a soldier. [s]

I read this in the 90s so would have picked it up in young readers section of the library. I thought it was called ‘Operation Overlord’ or ‘Overlord’ but haven’t been able to find it under that.

A diary of a soldier’s experience. I believe it ended with a note saying his father had kept it in the loft un-read until he passed away. Really nothing more than that but i remember re-reading and it was a wonderful book.

Thanks in advance for any insight as I’d love to read it again.
