Books about getting custody of newly orphaned toddler

Hi there.

So, I am looking for books where the protagonist 'can either be male or female' is having laid-back, fun, care-free city life; money, looks and boyfriends/girlfriends. But everything changes overnight when his/her sister or best friend dies, leaving him/her in charge of their months old daughter/son.

And then story must concentrate on how is the protagonist going to cope and work on the parenting skills. The story must progress to a stage where the protagonist must really form a bond with the toddler and life must start going smoothly and then one day "the bang" "the twist". Midway, into the story, the father of the toddler who was absent from the toddler's life must enter the story and fight for the legal battle of the toddler.

And from then on the story must concentrate on what happens next. For example, the father gets the baby. Then the protagonist goes through a sad phrase in his/her life and finally in the end the protagonist must get the baby back.

I am looking at a good romantic-comedy with a good story in it.

I wouldn't call it a comedy

but the novel -a theory of relativity by Jacquelyn mitchard was a good story about an uncle who took in his baby neice
