Benedict Lightwood accuses Charlotte of being unfit to run the Institute primarily because she’s a woman. Is this opinion peculiar of him or consistent with the feelings of the era? Did you suspect he had ulterior motives at the time?

Same here though I assumed he had an agenda. That’s been fairly clear since the first book. I never trusted him, especially after meeting Gabriel.
