Woo Hoo! We made it! What did you think?

Chad | 13 comments So I think I want to read the sequel. The book ends and I felt pretty good about how it all went down. The sequel apparently happens in the same town 200 years later which seems like the only way I would want a sequel for this series. Anyone else planning on continuing?

Stacy Filozof | 4 comments FINISHED! I feel like I’ve really accomplished something! Haha! I’ll have to say, if all the chapters, the last one was my least favorite. Happy reading!

Chad | 13 comments Stacy do you plan to read book 2? I ordered it but am nervous to go ahead.

Stacy Filozof | 4 comments I do! I actually found these books at a library book sale for $1! Woohoo! I am going to read something else in between, that’s an easy read, before I dive back into the second one.

Chad | 13 comments I agree! I am reading a couple of books in between. I loved the length of Pillars though. It just felt like it could take its time. Excited to read the same setting 200 years later. Very interesting!

Stacy Filozof | 4 comments I did enjoy the length of it. The author amazed me that he could hold my attention throughout the book. I will definitely finish the series, hopefully within the next couple of months. I have his other series of three that have come highly recommended also!
I really feel he has become one of my favorite authors, along with Pat Conroy, they both know how to tell an awesome story!

Mike | 12 comments Happy to have finished! I enjoyed the book, but the ending left me feeling a bit underwhelmed. I don't know. I was hoping for a big dramatic ending of William, but the fact that he lived until he was old, fat, dealing with painful gout, and hanged, was not satisfying at all. I would have preferred to see him go down in bloody fight, similar to Alfred's end.

Also, while Ellen did play an integral part at the end, it seemed like her character had so much missed potential by shoving her in a cave and out of sight for most of the book.

While I really enjoyed reading Pillars, I don't know if I'll be jumping into Book Two anytime soon. I'm looking forward to reading something that isn't quite so dense, and having fun with it.

Thanks for hosting this readalong, Vicky!

I just finished (finally)! Overall I thought it was really good. I did find the last chapter to be sort of underwhelming. What happened to Ellen? Was she still alive at the end or did I miss it? I also wanted William to face more of a punishment than what he got. Though I’m sure slowly suffocating sucks, I just wanted more. He was such a horrible human being. I’m not sure if I will continue the series. I’m going to think on it. If I do, it won’t be right away. Thank you guys so much for reading this book with me! I hope you enjoyed it :)
