Has anyone read Storm Glass by Jeff Wheeler? If so I would love to hear if you liked it or not. The covers in this series are so pretty that they make me want to read them but I haven't heard anyone talking about the books.

I have one of his books on my shelves to be read but I've yet to get to it. So sadly I am no help. I do like the cover though.

Hey lads, I've been debating jettisoning a few books from my shelves at home, but I'm forever worried that I'll miss out on a great book. (I don't worry about missing out on other things, just amazing books.) It seems like we've all got somewhat similar reading tastes, so I'll ask if anyone has an opinion on the following:

Grimspace by Anne Aguirre
Taliesin / Merlin / Arthur by Stephen Lawhead
The Black Jewels Trilogy: Daughter of the Blood, Heir to the Shadows, Queen of the Darkness by Anne Bishop
The Dragon Queen by Alice Borchardt
Farlander by Col Buchanan

I haven’t heard of any of these but Grimspace sounds good. I enjoyed this author’s Razorland series so I’m going to give Grimspace a try.

I liked Grimspace and the rest of the series that follows it. I have tried a couple of times to read the Black Jewels series and have not gotten past the first chapter. However, Anne Bishop's "Others" series (start with Written in Red is really good.

Anne Bishop is good. I read 1 book by Stephen Lawhead years ago and liked it but didn't love it.

I've never heard of the last 2 authors.

That being said, I did not like the way his Legends of Muirwood ended. However I very much like his writing! So I will be keeping my eye on how you proceed. I am set to start his Kingfountain series next.

The only author I have heard of is Anne Bishop and I absolutely died for her Other series. It's my all time favorite adult series even surpassing the Anita Blake series that held that place for 10+ years.

No necessarily a "should I read this" but more a "what should I read" note here. I see some of my fellow group members are reading cozy mysteries and I was wondering what some of you might recommend.

My mystery reading has been mainly in the psychological/thriller sub genre but those can be taxing on the reader. I'd ask for some light-hearted murder mysteries, but that sounds really, really bad. Still that's kinda what I'm on the lookout for? 😅

I tend to go for thriller or really dark mystery too. But I do liek some of the older gothic mysteries with Barbara Michaels being one of my old favorite authors. Also, it was years ago but I remember reading some of the Lilian Braum "The Cat Who" books were fun.

I think Jenny is likely to be the best expert here though.

I just finished re-reading the Lady Julia Grey series Deanna Raybourn and can recommend it as a good mystery/historical/romance read. Julia's family is somewhat unconventional for their era and keep the plot bunnies busy and prolific. A bit more serious but also historical are the Captain Lacey Mysteries Ashley Gardner.

Thanks Jamie! My mom read The Cat Who books when they were being published, she loved them. I should check them out too. Fortunately, I'm taking a huge haul to HPB tomorrow. 😏

Oh cool, thanks Momokaachan! I've heard good things about the Lady Julia Grey series but haven't heard of Captain Lacey. I'll look into those.
