Why the change in character?

In the beginning of "The Color Purple" Celie said "I don't fight, I stay where I'm told. But I'm alive"(21).Celie didn't want anything else but to stay alive, at the end Celie came out her shell. The question is why do you think Celie started fighting to become a free woman?

Celie starts fighting to become a free women because most of her life she was secluded from the world. As she grows older she realizes that there's so much more in life then becoming a house wife.
